Stealth character NEED help!

Post » Thu Dec 15, 2011 8:45 am

I need help making a stealth class, and the problem I have with making one is that I want to be able to kill dragons without hiding and dieing by them in 1 hit. How should I make my stealth character be able to withstand actual combat from enemys that I can't hide from like the dragon priests, dragons and other things? I look on youtube and I see people running like a little girl from dragons because they will die instantly, I don't want to be doing that, I want to kill it! Oh and what is the point of putting points in stamina other than running longer and carrying more weight? Any feedback would be very much appreciated! Thanks :)

Stamina is essential if you're playing a thief class so that you'll be able to run away from enemies and also when you pick the perk in Archery which allows you to zoom in.

Archery is your friend. It will be your backbone to fighting dragons. Keep your distance and attack them while in the air. Get all the perks, especially the slow time perks.

What difficulty level are you playing at? I'm playing on adept, and I haven't had any problems with dragons 1 hitting me... so you must be playing on a higher difficulty. Stamina has proven to be useless for me. I don't need it to run away, since that's not what I do ;). I just have plenty of health and when needs be I can tank if my stealthing wasn't enough to kill.

That being said, you can't kill a dragon by stealthing it to death... so what kind of combat skill did you pick up?

Stamina is awesome in archery. I didn't like my bow much until I was able to pick up the slowtime 50% perk. Now, I almost never pull out my sword. I snipe everything, typically 1-3 shotting everyone, and there are only rare instances where I'm detected before I've killed them.

I will note that I started the game as a sneaky sword and board. I have an almost equal distribution of points between stamina and health, have very high one-handed and light armor with a somewhat lower block skill. My sneak is at 100 however.

Stamina FTW regarding defense First <3 resist gear for dragons and dpriests

Second physical dmg for a stealthy is not suppose to happen alot but you can cap armor cap even with leather with smith perks and light armor perks :D!

Stamina is vital for power attacks, which in turn are vital for low armor types. Not sure about the dragon thing as I have not got there yet. One thing that I do against mobs or powerful opponents is hit and run. For mobs, get them spread out and deal with them one at a time. Very powerful opponents are harder. Some stealth archery, running away occasionally when they see you, then, if possible, a dagger attack for the finish.

I plan on doing dual wielding dagger type stealth, should I use archery too? And is it possible to do stealth with heavy armor because I would really like to use that ebony mail.

on master difficulty I find no effective way to fight dragons without archery+cover/shouts, you CAN invest in smithing/block (with shield)/light armor but that would make you a warrior so... ye... relly on companions or go for archery+alchemy+sneak if you really want an effective thief/ranger stealthy dragon slayer

ps: investing in illusion is effective aswell, but then again that would still not make you an actual thief archtype build but ye...

possible? yes, effective? no, and particulary bad for the vast majority of the game if you are a dagger assassin because you have to get close, you could get away with it as a ranger but you would still require alot of investmenti n perks and skillups to make it worth while...
usually, and this from a master diff. perspective, using sneak means reliquinshing your armor for defence in most cases.

I do stealth with heavy armor. It's slower starting but it works. You should get the -50% armor noise perk in the stealth tree and Conditioning from heavy armor. Also learn Muffle asap, either the enchant or the spell (spell is easier obviously). With those things and just 1 point in the starter sneak skill (+20% to sneak) I can run around in full heavy armor and unless I stand in front of enemies in bright light I never get detected (I do have 100 sneak but I've been sneaking fine for a long time before 100). I even got a sneak attack on a bunny in the daytime recently.

I would also strongly recommend archery as a back-up. There are so many times it's just nice to be able to snipe "that guy over there." Especially since using daggers a good chunk of the 1-hand tree is useless to you you're going to have perks to spare.

Edit: You might consider starting in light armor and paying Farkas to train you in heavy armor. Also the +sneak on Ebony mail does a good job of countering the negative from wearing heavy, I think you even end up with better sneak because of it.

you just need archery to beat dragons, and dragonrend shout helps, get them on the ground and hide behind a rock and take potshots.
