For the greater good. Thank you Todd Howard

Here is my oppinion about the present Elder scrolls.
What I found stunning was some of the reviews I read.
That Skyrim was an example of how the "industry can still make big money from complex single player games". Its less a problem of Bethesda changing...and more a problem of the industry changing. I truely believe if it wasn't Todd Howard in charge we could all be complaining about the latest Elder Scrolls MMO, at least he stays true enough ot the ES series to keep it as a single player game. From reviews I saw it seems like Bethesda are behind on simplifying games.

Skyrim is not a complex game...but in comparison to other RPGs in the industry it is. Its not a bad game.....it even covers the lore fairly well....but it still holds the player's hand all the way (despite many reviews saying it doesn't...again look at other games currently) and rather then making a believable world for you to play in....once again it "you and only you can save the world from [instert big threat here]". Daggerfall and Morrowind are the only game that have started the MQ in a believable way.

Bethesda underestimate the intelligence of their audience, and because of this we get these dumbed down games. But games like Daggerfall are a relic of the past, Im an avivd ES gamer, and really get into these games.....but the daggerfall character creator still scares me with the complexities....and then when I'm out in the world, I get lost with what Im meant ot do as I often got shoved into quests I had not chance of completing (not that I'd realize this till I was halfway through a dungeon). Daggerfall is a masterpiece I will admit, and i like a lot of qualities from it....but I'm leaving it to you old school gamers.

But if Bethesda weren't aiming at the big market I have no doubt that the series would have died....or at least not been as successful as it is, which could have heavily impacted on the quality of the games. I still believe that having simple ES game is better then having no ES games.

Todd howard is like General Tallius. A bit detached but is saving the elder scrolls from a far worse fate. The old school hard core players are kinda like stormcloaks. We get mad of the fact that what they have is changing far from what they are familiar and comfortable with. We dont want the elder scrolls to change so so much but the game requires sacrifice even on our part.

Are you calling the old school, hardcoe players racists? Nice one.

I kind of agree with you ... except that there was no need to make the game this bare-bones.

If Bethesda were like General Tallius, then he'd be slowly running the Elder Scrolls series into the ground. Fortunately, he's more like Galmar Stone-Fist. :P

Nonsense. He's fighting to free us from mainstream oppression by bringing good games to the masses.

I think Skyrim is just as complex and thick with the details as previous Elder Scrolls rpgs are. Its just the more faster reactive interactive gameplay style gives an illusion of being less when it actually delievers more. I've been playing rpgs since the days of Dungeon Master,Dark Knights Of Krynn,Legends Of Valour and have played all the Elder Scrolls games since Arena. Am definitely happy of the much more streamlined ui and immersive gameplay that keeps me in the game instead of flipping through stat screens all the time. I also love stat style rpgs full of numbers to plan things out which is why am also looking forward to Kingdoms Of Amalur :teehee:
