Smithing...sigh

Dwemer crafting should still not be possible, or should at least be a much more costly perk than it currently is. The entire culture and technology has been lost, but somehow your character knows how to make the Dwemer's equipment?

You're not making dwemer equipment - what you're doing is smelting and forging existing dwemer alloy - the only source of teh alloy is existing bits and parts of dwemer machinery. In that regard dwemer hardware is unique, every otehr material has ore that can be found. The design of the weapons and armor has been reverse-engineered (Markath sounds like a likely source for that knowledge, being a dwemer ruin) , but there's still no way you can make more of the alloy.

Though I grant you that a quest to learn the techniques from Markath's smiths or a source of demer knowldge would make sense

Simple solution to make smithing feel important would have been to have a lengthy questline that sent you all over skyrim to find and learn plans, techniques etc.

Smithing.

You're walking though the forest and discover a cave. Inside the cave you find a dead fallen archangel still wearing the battlegear. A normal adventurer would loot it and dress up in the ultimate battlegear. A Skyrim adventurer would leave it there because it would make too powerful for the game to present anymore of a challenge.

Don't you love Bethesda ?
