Finding locations

Post » Thu Dec 15, 2011 10:54 pm

I wish finding locations was better done. I don't like having my map spammed with locations, removing the need for me to actually find them. And by find them, I don't mean simply walking to them, I mean actually looking them out based on verbal or written directions.

I guess the voice acted current dialogue system is mostly to blame for this, but there's another thread on that topic.

But really, having to interact with AI to get directions would be far more fun and appropriate. You'd get rough directions if the location was far away, and more precise directions the closer you get to it. Basic compass directions and some sort of distance measure would be all that's needed.

Gameplay follows.

The NPCs also could simple mark it on your map and tell you in what direction it is. In a certain manner they already do that, there is a mark in your map and a direction in your compass.

The only almost inexplicable thing is why we get directions inside the caves and such.

This is exactly what I do NOT wish.
