Items missing from house

Post » Thu Dec 15, 2011 5:03 pm

anyone else have any items disappear from their home? for some reason the daedric skull staff thing (meh I could care less about it) and the wooden mask that allows me to get the final mask is gone... which I care a lot about....... I know where I left them and they are just gone for no reason... I don't have a save that's close to the amount of things I accomplished since getting it early this morning. My fault for being a moron and not saving more often but well I didn't count on my items deciding to up and leave............................ why every time we get a new patch do some things get fixed (mostly things that were broken in the previous patch) and more things get broken....

I will say that you are not the only person who has experienced this issue, I have heard about this happening at least once before. A cause or solution was not found at that time.

I was wondering, did you leave the items in containers (chests, cabinets, end-tables), on the floor, upon surfaces, or inside display cases? Which home did this occur in?
Answering these questions may provide clues to the item disappearance, illuminate possible preventative measures to help safeguard a duplicate scenario among the community and possibly a way to troubleshoot/fix the issue.

Posting this in the Hardware and Software Issues Forum may be more beneficial to you. You may get a larger audience and concern toward your issue. Thank you.

No not your fault. You should be able to leave your stuff in your home without it walking off somewhere. Did you check your wife? Maybe she has it? (Seriously.)

There's also that bug that makes your items go back to where you originally dropped them. Some object's physical properties are wonky as well, and can cause them to fling. Some objects also go through the floor, so that may be what happened. I say do a thorough search, and if you're in Whiterun, Breezehome, look in the ashes under the cooking pot. Items can get down there without you knowing.

The only problem with disappearing items - and this is really annoying - is that in my game, the bow and 2H sword it give to Lydia, have disappeared 3 times now. So, now I have to keep extra weapons in my chest to re-enchant and give them to her.

No idea why, or even when it happens. I'll be looking at her stuff when I want her to carry something, and discover that the bow and/or sword are gone.

Or, we're in a fight when she should be using the bow and she continually walks around with a sword. Then I check her out and yep, bow is gone.

sigh.

I'm sorry for the wall of text!

Its was the home in Marklarth (however you spell it), it only has one floor. After freaking out about the disappearance I searched every inch of visible space and tried to see behind the end tables and shelves. I stood in places I never thought possible. I have not yet checked my other homes for missing items I got very upset last night, quit playing, posted this topic on the forum and went to sleep. The wooden mask I left on the shelf directly outside the enchanting room. I had krosis and rahgot on the bottom shelf. I put the wooden mask next to them to the right, it was a [censored] because I'm OCD and they have to be lined up perfectly. It probably took 20+ mins to place each mask beyond the first. I was going to line them all up until I collected them all. Upon searching I found a basket fused into the end table between the mannequin and the shelf. This further upset me because I figure my things are stuck inside a wall somewhere.... The staff I don't really care about, but at first I tried to place it in the shield/weapon rack parallel to the door of the enchanting room, in the previous patch it fell out of the rack when I left my home and glitched so it could never be used again. (until the next patch broke it into half working. Now all the items are off center) So I left the staff balanced on top of the shelf directly to the right of the rack. It stayed so I left it. Only in searching for the wooden mask did I discover it was also missing. It would have been weeks/months before I knew.

I rely too heavily on auto saves. The last save I have is 7.5 hours in the past. I was questing nearly the entire 7.5 hours. So you can Imagine the amount of progress lost...

Currently objects do not stay where you place them initially. When you drop and attempt to place a new item in your home, when you leave it will return to the spot it was originally dropped. To combat this when I want to place an item for my viewing pleasure I drop it/them on the floor in the room I want to have it/them displayed, leave the home, re-enter and place them where I want. They usually stay unless the model box is interfering with another items model box then the bigger item usually pushes the smaller one over or onto the floor.

Edit: I forgot to mention I am currently not married in game as I have not yet decided who to wed. Most of the women in the game are hideous... So this removes the possibility of her having my items for she does not exist. Also I did check my housecarl he does not have them either. Thank you everyone who cared enough to respond and come up with suggestions to help locate my missing equipment.

A big burly horse of a man lives in my home. He is my sword and my shield! He did not yet take an arrow to the knee, but it is entirely possible that he might some day. I don't think my things were stolen lol.
