Stealth archery and Conjuration

Post » Thu Dec 15, 2011 10:46 pm

Looking at a stealth assassin relying on sneak shots but summoning stuff when discovered, to distract the enemy while raining arrows on them. An especially great tactic when sneaking is not an option (Ex: small area with a bandit chief). And I really hate having to reload the game if I get detected and hell breaks loose.
No, followers are not an option as they just go in as soon as something enters their range, while a summon can be cast on demand.

Now I don't really want a combat archer (heavy armor and bow, no stealth), as I still want to snipe things.

Since archers don't need stamina almost at all, and hardly get hit as well, there is plenty of stamina and health to put into magicka without gimping oneself. Not to mention you're not burning magicka like you would be casting Destruction spells.

So how would this setup work ?

I'm a level 23 archer/assassin/mage. Definitely a awesome character to play. To be honest though I haven't used conjuration once lol, you should look into destruction magic so you can set runes, or "mines" as they are called. They can be very entertaining for a stealthy character! Just set one and when an enemy come close to it, they go off. There are ruins for fire destruction and frost destruction that I know of. Probably more. There are also some cool perks that go along with them!

The sneaking system works differently in Skyrim, you'll just have to play around with it and figure it out. One of the things I love about being a archer is that if there are enemies near, but you don't have a good shot, then you can shoot an arrow off into a corner. Rather than the enemies automatically know where you are, they go inspect where there arrow hit. Then...BAM, you get him in the back of the head with another arrow! But be warned, when one enemy gets hit by one of your arrows the others will then know which direction it came from and they will go investigate.

Also, you WILL need stamina!!! Being an archer you'll definitely want the perk that let's you zoom in while aiming your bow. However, your stamina drains while you are "zoomed in," so the higher your stamina is, the longer you can zoom. You'll need it. Trust me.

That's all I can think of at the moment. Hope that helps :) GOOD LUCK!

you should seriously think about using the runes. you've got three of them as far as I know: fire, frost and lightning. they are handy to make traps were you let your enemies walk over and then BOOM :)

I enjoyed it so much that I'm currently playing a mage who mostly uses runes :P

Their lots of fun. Just wondering, but what do you guys do in close quarters with this class?
I've got a pretty decent destruction skill, so I usually just use that, and sometimes I even bring out a shield. Conjuring my atronach while an enemy is standing right next to me usually doesn't help much.

When I get detected by enemies and it becomes close combat, I just start shooting flames at them till I burn them to a crisp!! :D it's a pretty decent way to play in my opinion.

The only thing I use conjuration for is summoning a bow. That doesn't negate how awesome it is to pull a bow out of thin air and assassinate someone with it is, though.

I started one with conjuration, but liked the Summon Familiar better than the other options. Going to add some runes as traps as suggested... thanks for the idea. :)
