Good related books?

Hello folks,

I love fallout although I've only just started playing it and I was wondering if there were any good real life books which explore the themes of nuclear war and it's aftermath?I'm just on my way to the library and thought it may be fun to pick something up to enhance the game.I suppose I'm not looking for fan fiction per se but certainly books set in a sort of fallout world would be of interest as would any factual books on nuclear war etc.

Thanks in advance!

As I've recommended a few times on this forum if you love the setting and don't mind a book that actually gets down deep into the darkness of what humankind would most likely fall into after such an event you must read The Road. It's an amazing read and the setting is very fallout-ish, though it is a bit more of a father and son survival story. All the same a great read in my opinion. :coolvaultboy:

Although I haven't read it myself, I've heard the book A boy and his dog was a big inspiration for the fallout series. I really liked Lucifer's hammer; A giant comet hit's the earth, and people have to find a way to survive.

A Canticle for Leibowitz by Walter Miller Jr is probably my favorite post-apocalyptic sci-fi novel. It's classic for very good reason. It's basically story about catholic monk order that tries to protect knowledge of past generations in times after flame deluge. It's consists of three shorter stories. First is set in middle-age like era, several hundred years after nuclear war. Second happens several centuries afterwards, when mankind has climbed back to renaissance. Third story takes place when mankind has re-developed itself into industrial civilization with at least limited capability for space travel. It isn't very action oriented, but awesome satire about human nature. It is definite source of inspiration for brotherhood of steel.
