Have to finish New Vegas before Skyrim comes out

Post » Thu Dec 15, 2011 5:55 pm

So I waited for all of the DLC to come out before starting New Vegas in earnest. So far I have made it through "Things that go Boom!" ( I am doing an NCR play through), I have finished a fair amount of side quests, and I have completed Dead Money and Honest Hearts.

I still have LR and OWB to finish as well as completing the rest of the NCR quests.

I am hurrying through because I know that when Skyrim comes out, i will probably give my attention to that game. As I have a wife, a toddler, and a job, my video gaming time is limited, so I am making the most of it while I can.

Anybody else feeling the rush till 11 November?

So, you waited that long for all DLCs just to rush through the game as fast as possible ? Not the smartest move if you ask me

Hmm, allthough I had Skyrim on my list as game to get, I'm more eager for the new Assassins creed. As for the FO games. I know I'll be playing them over and over again. Fallout and NHL are the two games I will never abandon.

I don't see why anyone would buy Skryim right away, I expect a buggy mess of a game like every newly released Bethesda game.

Take your time. Skyrim will most likely be bugged and unplayable for many at release until the right patch comes out. Happened with FNV and FO3.

Skyrim will be a booty-call, but Fallout NV is my true love.

I love post-apocalyptic scenarios + I love sci-fi + I love retro-future concepts = I *LOVE* Fallout.

I...have a mild interest in Fantasy. Which = on 11/11/11.

They didn't do such a hot job debugging NV before release. I still feel bit pretty hard by that, and it's made me not particularly inclined to reach my hand out again. If I decide to try it, I'll definitely be waiting for reports of any bugs on their Skyrim job first  .

I'm not gonna give it up without a proper performance. They're not cheap, and I'm not easy.

Wow, Your post makes me feel much better (since you have a Wife, Child & a Job) given that i assumed i was the only one here, or of just a few that would be considered "Old" to play video games, considering that lots of threads and posts i have viewed in this forum are insubordinate and immature to the thread title itself started by the OP or the discussion completely veered off-course and got hi-jacked into a bashing thread. (im NOT attempting to do that here)
Obviously this happens in every discussion forum, but for newcomers like me who join the forums, whose been playing video games before the "Atari" days and well long after, im not very well inspired to start a question thread or reply to a discussion as a result of it.
Ive been "bashed" before in many other discussion forums and have had judgment passed on me as a "Grandpa" video-gamer who "Doesnt belong" without any of the users even bothering to get to know me at all. :(
So this reply is NOT meant to throw the topic off track, its just a "thank you" for your topic comments that have inspired me to be more active in this forum with the game FNV that i really like alot without feeling like im a "Grandpa" gamer in an elementary classroom.
Yes, I will be playing video games even when i am 90 years old (i am 41 if you must know lol)

I'll probably get Skyrim only after it's patched/good mods come out, and/or it comes down on a steam sale.

I might end up waiting for the inevitable GOTY edition instead.

I've been overdosed with Fallout: New Vegas so I'm already taking a break. I'll probably come back to it though, just as I come back to Fallout 1 and 2 periodically, although I don't mod them (well, I want to try the restoration pack for FO2 though...). And I'll very likely play Skyrim too, despite being skeptical whether the changes are for the better or not. Guess I'll have to see for myself.

The visual quality was mostly what I was trying to show up -- surely, if a Fallout game was made with that engine, it wouldn't look like that (cartoony Fable esque). The screens are from Dungeon Siege 3.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7MBUb1JBrSQ it says it's a Obsidian game... so it's there engine? I'm not digging DS3 but the game looks fresh

DS3 is an Obsidian game. And the engine is theirs. Yes.

I've been a fan of TES since Morrowind so while I may not be able to get it on Nov. 11th, I will be getting very soon after. I'm sure I will have have all achievements on this next play through of NV so it will be a good time for a break and move on to Skyrim for a while.

@EliteData I too have a wife, child and fond memories of Tron and Raiders of the Lost Ark on Atari. Don't get discouraged. It's not all teenagers here.

Actually, yes. I've never played an Elder Scrolls game before (I prefer to kill things with a gun, not with a wand) but I am looking forward to Skyrim. I may even go for the midnight release. Sure, it'll probably be in need of some early patches, but having played (and loved) Fallout 3 and New Vegas, I can live with that. So I'll definitely get Skyrim, despite not being a huge fantasy fan. It'll be my first ever Elder Scrolls game, and I'm really looking forward to it.

So I want to complete everything I can in New Vegas before then, since I probably (unless its awful/a buggy mess/or I just don't like it) will end up exploring Skyrim for the foreseeable future.

Well, until Mass Effect 3 comes out, that is. ^_^

I loved morrowind, threw out my copy of oblivion and have no interest at all in skyrim.

New Vegas will be my goto game for the forseeable future.

I can feel the rush towards it as well. Ive been waiting to get sent to BMT by my recruiter for months now, but now I just want time to get to the 11th and then slow down so I have a little while to play it before I have to leave for months on end. THATS going to svck probably. But as far as playing New Vegas or Fallout 3 for that matter when Skyrim comes out, ill probably still play a little bit of both of them. I can see Skyrim swallowing about 80% of my time when it comes out. And the other 20% will be spread out amongst numerous things

I tried Oblivion GotY and thought it was a good game to dink around in. It was not a very good RPG, imo, because I did not feel like my decisions had any impact on the world. It was still fun in its own way just like Fallout 3 (Oblivion with guns indeed).

EDIT: Forgot to mention that because of my impression from those 2 BGS games that I have played my purchase of Skyrim will likely be when I can find it for $20 on ebay. That should be within a month of release. :P

TBH though I think New Vegas will STILL have superior roleplay capabilities. TES has a habit of generally supporting the thief, mage and warrior playthrough so those are the three provided with a guild, wheres New Vegas basically gave the people 14 different factions to work with. And the races really don't have very different abilities. Breton and Altmer are the only two that have constant, long-term benefits; the traits system in New Vegas makes characters far more diverse than the race system ever has. Not to mention, the perks they've shown so far don't look that amazing.

That's one of the reasons I'm not DYING to get Skyrim. I'm sure it'll be fun and I wanna see what the radiant AI means, but I don't have such high hopes for it as an RPG like New Vegas.

I can respect this but I think, in Skyrim, you will have ore sway in factions. Not to mention, this one allows you to meld classes a little more than Oblivion. As for races, for those who just like to RP as different races, barring racial bonuses, this gives them more freedom in doing so. Either way I love NV but Oblivion was the first RPG I really got into, if not for it, i may have never picked up Fallout.
