I'm just wondering if I triggered something or did a quest that makes it so I can talk to guards now. Is there a reason they just start talking with you when they never had dialogue before?

The whole game 140 hrs I have never been able to actually talk with a guard. If I press the action button they would just say something stupid but now I get dialogue options. I can ask questions and they can tell me things. Am I the only one that couldn't talk with guards. Was it a bug I was having or was it story related? I don't know if this has anything to do with it as far as it being a bug but right before I noticed I can finally interact with the guards there were three of the same people outside of Whiterun. They all had the same names, they said the same thing at the same time but they has their own individual movements. I attacked one of them and they all attacked me then I at that point I was able to talk with guards. I traveled to different cities and now all of them had dialogue.

Any ideas?

The guy outside, was that Louis? I have 3 of him. Well, 2.5. And I can't talk to guards.

could be something to do with the latest patch, a bug perhaps.

Yes. That's all I was able to do before. from a bounty. Now they they actually talk about things that are on my currect quest log. I press x, they say something then sometimes only one thing pops up to talk about and sometimes depending on what I'm doing and what city I'm in there is multiple text. This

No but they do say more stuff about swords and weapons I have not heard. One I never heard till now is something about my bow taking dragons from the sky and that light armor is a great choice because it will keep my light on my feet or something.

After 1.3 it seems I get a lot more recognition for being Companion by guards. I wear Wolf armor so that might be it.

All I have to do is get a camera and take a picture. It don't matter anyway because I don't even believe it myself. I didn't come on here to brag about it. I came here for an explanation. I want an answer to why I was always unable to do this and now I can speak to them.

I'm in the procces of moving from the east coast to the west coast so every camera I own is in storage until the 21st. I kept the two most important things out of storage to have at my father in laws house. My gaming system and my screen. My dog is even in storage. Kidding. See if my father in law has a camera and I'll take a pic of the dialogue.

I think as your skills increase they comment on it. For some time I've had guards tell me to "watch what you're doing, sneak-thief", or some such (sneak was my highest level skill). Lately, as my alchemy skill has increased I've heard other comments relating to that, with one guard at Solitude saying something along the lines of "You're an alchemist? How about brewing me some ale?"

I've heard them commenting on my skills. With my Breton, I got comments like "Conjuring monsters? How about you conjure me a warm bed", "Restoration is a school I can respect" and "How about you enchant my sword? It's so dull it can barely cut butter" from guards.
My Orc got comments like "The gods gave you two hands, and you use them both for your weapon. I can respect that", "A good defence is the best offence, am I right?" and such.

And they make comments based on your factions and your equipment. Spellbreaker got me a comment of "That is Dwemer craftywork, right? But it's seems so much more at the same time"
My Ebony Sword got me "That is a beautiful blade! Like a sliver of midnight!"
My Thieves Guild armor got me "I know Thieves Guild armour when I see it. I'll be watching you"

Etc.

Note: Some of them are rather bad though, as once you reach 30 in Speech (you get there if you sell alot of loot) guards will say "I've heard of you and your honeyed words" in a mockingly tone, when I'm Dovahkiin, heavely armoured and armed and Harbinger of the Companions.
They often wind up dead.

Great idea. But I traveled to another city and they were not coming up with dialogue. So then I found out that there a few cases where the guards will talk to you with the dialogue options present. It happens when you a doing a couple missions for the jarl. During that mission the guards from that hold will have conversation with you. It was happening on me in morthal and Riften. The other cities do not have the dialogue option. That is why is posted this because I did not know if it had anything to do with the story, well it does. It is odd though because now the guards say more to me. The newest thing I heard was when I was carrying a bow and a guard said bows are the best to take down dragons. Also that light armor means light on the feet, which I had never heard any of them.

I was wondering if anyone has the option to talk with the guards in morthal like I do. With the dialogue they talk about a house burning down. Anyone?
