Beginnings

I have just watched New Vegas' for the first time, and was wondering which is your favourite.

I like Fallout: 3's as it seemed to sum up the whole world in one song and scene.

Skyrim in groundbreaking, awesome and breathtaking and all... but there's something about Fallout that keeps me coming back.

If only they made Fallout with the skyrim engine...

New Vegas. Quick, doesn't waste my time and allows to start a new game fast. Fallout 3's is too long and estabilishes a pre-set background and age for my character. Oblivion and Skyrim are too drawn out for their own good - I prefer getting kicked out of the Seyda Neen customs office with rags on my back and a reference letter to Balmora, rather than go through tutorial dungeons over and over again. Shame Bethesda didn't think of giving us the option of skipping intros and tutorial dungeons.

No, saving before the end of said dungeon an option does not make.

Morrowind didn't do anything special, but it's practical.
Skyrim opened up like a movie, but holy mother of god does it make starting a new character a chore.
Oblivion had a very nice tutorial that's not too long, not too short, and a decent intro aswell.
Fallout 3 provides the player a nice beginning with a good amount of detail and freedom, for a tutorial. Its the longest, but at least it doesn't feel so long.

New Vegas had a kick ass intro that established just enough backstory to make the player think "you're going down you son of a [censored]" and get ready to play as the cutscene ended, and then sure enough: you're ready to play. Incredibly practical and short, but if you DO want a tutorial, Goodsprings' quest basically serves that purpose.

I think New Vegas had the most practical intro from that list, with a choosable "tutorial" that felt actually more part of the settlements questline than a forced introduction to the gameplay.

Fallout 3. It obviously becomes tedious when you have seen it a dozen times but it's very nice especially for someone like me who had not played Oblivion beforehand. A short, traditional intro and then half-an-hour tutorial where you figure out the basics of life, controls, and a bit of combat. It's one of the better parts of the game, and well establishes what it's like to live in a vault.

Fallout New Vegas mostly assumed you had played Fallout 3 beforehand, as it did little to instruct controls. Otherwise I like it, since it's very quick with the obviously skipable intro. The intro itself was okay. It was well made but for better or worse it was the first (of the main series) that was completely different (very little to describe the War, coherent explanation of what is going on now).

Don't know about Oblivion or Skyrim intros as never watched them. TES is a series where, starting a new game, I go through all buttons to see if I can skip the intro.
Oblivion's "escape from jail" was a bit silly, as I didn't care one bit for the Emperor. When he died, my only thought was "can I get your stuff?"
Skyrim's "execution scene" was really nice. I feel the whole game lacks something in the atmosphere, it's too mechanical or something, but all things considered it was very well done.

Most people seem to have played TES.
