She is going to stay dead this time

I dont think I will do multiple reloads in order to make sure my companion survives every time. Some of those bosses are tough!!!!

Are you outfitting her with good armor, weapons and healing potions?

I heard from one of the guys on these forums that Lydia has been fixed since 1.2 and should be levelling with the player, she shouldn't really BE dying unless you're letting her tank and not supporting her properly.

i gaved to my Lydia a Dragonbone armor,and she still dies from a [censored] Bear....

Well I was letting her tank too much I think.

She's a pain because she doesn't level with your character. So if you first meet her at level 2 she is always level 2.

There's plenty of less whiny companions. Don't you just hate when she whinges "I swore to carry your burdens" whenever you give her some new armor? Ungrateful wench!

I had to redo a Dragon Priest Quest three [censored] times to keep her alive, although to be fair the first time I killed her while she was down with a poorly aimed shout. Its annoying because she does more damage than me, and has armor that is only slightly less powerful than mine. I need her alive to carry all mah stuff so I have to re-do every time she dies

Open console, target her with a mouse and type "resurrect".

but take all her gear before you do that... if you resurrect her she only has her standard gear and everything you gave her is gone.


edit: somehow my lydia just dies nowadays... she doesn't go on her knees... just dies. so nowadays i just walk around with aela the huntress. all i gave to her was a new bow and the best arrow i could find. no problems.

I had that problem. I finally just started making her 'wait' while I did all the asskicking myself. I pretty much only use her as a pack mule.

You guys know that Lydia doesn't level with you, right? Since you meet her early on, she is probably very low level. Go become thane of Solitude and get Jardis the Sword Maiden. She's a Lydia clone and much tougher as she'll be the same level as when you meet her.

Lydia is retired for me. She was great when I was lower level, but now just kicks back at Breezehome drinking mead.

Lydia DOES level with you. You can check her level with console command and she is always the same level as i am.

Really? Several sources say otherwise. Not saying I don't believe you, I just can't check as I'm on a PS3. I would prefer that were true, but she got weaker and weaker for me (yes, I kept her in upgraded armor). And when I got Jardis she kicked butt.

EDIT: I wonder if "stats" and "level" are two separate things in this situation. Maybe her level reflects yours, but her actual stats never change? Here's the quote from uesp.net:

A follower's stats are determined based on the level the player is at when he or she first enters the zone that the follower is in. Once generated, the follower's stats do not increase at all. For example, Lydia is usually one of the first followers players will have access to, and most players receive her at a lower level. As such, most players' Lydias will have low stats for the entire game.

Lydia can't die unless you kill her; she just goes down to one knee, but she'll get back up.

Enemies will stop attacking her directly, but a poison or AOE damage from an enemy that happens to hit her can kill her also.
