Have New Respect For Bathesda

I have a new respect for my Heart Surgeon, he did an awesome job, other than the sponge he left in my chest cavity and the virus he gave me because he neglected to wash his hands.

Other than that, the guy is a freakin awesome surgeon.

Only in this stupid world of gaming does this level of schlock get passed off as professional and normal.

Lag aside..

Heart surgery is very difficult (i know because i treated a sunburn once) you should not complain about the sponge or that infection!!!!!

I have a new respect for Bethesda and programmers in general. As I just started learning C++ and dIscovered that
deciphering code is teatyas even when it is your own code. Debugging that code is even more of a chore and reading statment
after statment dose hurt the eyes. So if deciphering your own code is difficalt and teatyas. Then deciphering others code must be even more so...

And we won't even write about what it takes to transend from one console to another from your original code to PS3 or XBOX 360 or what ever your programming.
So before one gose off on a tangent about any game not work correctly as they incounter bug after bug that the above Statment = True and with games as big as The Elder Scrolls.
We need to under stand that debugging is a pain in the back side....

So big Kudos to you Bethasda and other programmers out their and you Moders as well. I apresheate your efforts....

For some perspective, C++ is notorious for being much more complex and difficult than most other programming languages. It's used in gaming because it compiles to fast machine code.

When they are doing it for non-profit/Charity yeah I'd be in the same boat. but they are getting paid and there really isn't anything "revolutionary" about what they've done ASIDE from the sixy Draw distance Mountains and near seamless loading. the only thing improved from Morrowind to Skyrim is Loading.

Morrowind stops your game and gives you a loading bar

Oblivion pops stuff in and gives you a notification that stuff is loading.

Skyrim Loads In your Load so you can Load While you Load.

no I just mean even if it is completely broken, the little bits of other stuff you got to do must have afforded you some slither of enjoyment, no? Like the combat - surely it is still fun in and of itself for that moment, even if the game proceeds to explode in your face a second later. Just seems a bit of a rash thing to say, I get the impression you are just really (and obviously justifiably) pissed off with the bugs and thus are saying extreme things : P

Sure there were brief moments wandering around a mountain I enjoyed, despite the fact that the graphics looked like a dog's dinner, but I felt uncomfortable knowing the game could break down at any moment from any angle... would the game freeze when I tried to save? (yes, numerous times), would a backwards dragon appear and slow the framerate to a crawl? Would the quest I just accepted break because the dungeon inexplicable had no loot? Etc, etc, etc. Not a fun experience knowing you're playing a game that's not ready for mass release.

And please, to people going on about how amazingly complex this game is and only Bethesda could make it and we should accept all these stupid game-breaking bugs...give me a break. It's not rocket science here, just check all your damn scripts, make sure there's no holes, check the code, TEST THE DAMN GAME YOURSELVES BETHESDA.

As a programmer I have to saw a lot of Skyrim's bugs are just inexcusable. One of the most obvious examples is a user interface that doesn't currectly tell you what keys perform what function if they've been rebound. This kind of stuff isn't hard to build even for novice programmers. Another one that irks me is the object-placement physics being far worse than Oblivion. The bookshelves are nice (mostly), but the rest of the experience is clunkier and more frustrating. Having to go outside the cell and then re-enter before dropped items stay where you put them is just strange.

Yeah, programming can be hard. Designing software that is not only relatively free of bugs, but scales well with large amounts of data can be utter madness, but remember that they're building on years of work and Skyrim's engine has inherited a lot of characteristics introduced in some of their games from 20 years ago. The core of it should be more solid that it is.

I still love Skyrim and every other TES game I've sunk a lot of time in; I even expect them to be fairly buggy simply because they are so big. it doesn't usually interfere much with my enjoyment as long as the game isn't crashing and the quests are completable..
