Ansilvund

Just posting this topic in an attempt to pass along my admiration for the designer of this dungeon. I’ve tried to avoid spoilers.

It contains a really poignant and thoughtful story, as well as being very cleverly constructed.

At the end of it, I was initially sorry that I couldn’t have convinced Lu'ah to give it up without the need for bloodshed, but then I realised that her grief and anger had overwhelmed her so much that she had become them, to the exclusion of everything else. And of course, there was an element of rescue to the dungeon’s mission. Reading the letter of condolence, it seemed unlikely that the object of her grief would have approved.

Of course, the other thing I love about Ansilvund is the fantastic reward at the end.

I think whoever it was who thought this all out has some really impressive creative and narrative talent.

I think this should be in the spoilers section...

But yea, I just finished this quest a moment ago too, I also love quests like these where the enemies got their own back story and not just an enemy that's purely evil for no reason.
I don't know about that "fantastic reward" though, I like that it's unique, but I still sold it off cuz I got a better sword. lol

A lot of the barrows make for really impressive dungeons. Actually, even caves and forts have their moment, like Broken Oar Grotto and Ilinalta's Deep.
I also like that this time, several dungeons have their own self contained quest. Nothing pushes you towards these safe your own wanderlust, and then you are rewarded by triggering something unique.

Spoiler
Ansilvund is a good example of this, and so are Valthume or Frostflow Lighthouse if you feel like trying these out next.

agree, liked this dungeon also. i really like blindly walking into a dungeon and there's a quest and a backstory waiting for me. skyrim is an explorer's dream, such a beautifully created world; add these little touches and it makes the world just a little more special.

I gotta try that lighthouse quest. A murder mystery sounds awesome. I also did absilvind at a low level and I thought the ghostly blade reward was really cool and had a unique enchantment
