[RELz] Some Things Can't Be Eaten

Post » Fri Oct 30, 2009 2:24 pm

First, quick release in the world of New Vegas. I found it silly that you can find many empty whiskey/scotch/nuka cola bottles yet, when you consume those items, you do not receive them.
I got this idea when I was using empty bottles for target practice.

Onwards with the readme!
Download link at the bottom of the post.

Name: Some Things Can't Be Eaten
Version: 1.0
Date: 28/10/2010
Category: Miscellaneous
Author: Cliffworms

=================
Requirements:
=================

Fallout New Vegas version 1.0 or higher

=================
Description:
=================

When you drink, you shouldn't be able to eat your bottle in the process! Now, when you drink Whiskey, Scotch, Vodka, Wine, Nuka Cola, Sunset Sarsaparilla or Beer, you will get an empty bottle of your beverage in your inventory.
Useful when you want to use them for target practice at a camp!

In addition, when you use med-x, jet or eat a caravan lunch, you will respectively obtain an empty syringe, an empty jet inhalator or an empty lunchbox. Useful when you want to decorate your appartment to look like a junkie house.
And the lunchbox is useful if you want to make another caravan lunch.

=================
Details:
=================

Only works on Whiskey, Scotch, Vodka, Wine, Nuka Cola, Sunset Sarsaparilla, Beer, Caravan Lunch, Med-X or Jet.

=================
Installation
=================

1. Copy the ESP file to the Data folder located in your New Vegas' directory,
2. Start Fallout New Vegas Launcher, click Data Files, and enable the .esp file.

=================
Un-Installation:
=================

1. Start Fallout New Vegas Launcher, click Data Files, uncheck the .esp file.
2. Delete the file associated with the mod in your Data folder.

=================
Incompatibility:
=================

None yet.

=================
Known Issues:
=================

The empty items are not added as soon as consumed. You must close your pip-boy interface and re-open it.
That's a problem with the original version as well.

Enjoy the empty bottles!

I'll most likely do the new drinkable items as well. (Moonshine, Absinthe, Bitter Drinks, etc.) in the next version.

Oh and I haven't done water bottles as there's already a mod that allows you to refill empty bottles and there will most likely be other empty water bottle-related mods in the future. So I prefered not to mess with those.

Sounds great, Cliffworms! This would be useful, assuming I ever get the chance to play.

Nice, definitely on my to add list. One q, do the beer bottles and so on give you a bottle cap, or is a separate mod needed for that?

:)

Thanks! :D
It's great that Valve gave support for NVSE. I love those guys. :celebration:

No they don't give you caps, sorry.
Simply because it seems that all caps come from Nuka Cola and Sunset bottles. At least, if I judge by the textures of the bottle caps... :P

Great job Cliffworms, I like that there's now a logical way of getting useful items like empty syringes. Keep up the good work. :goodjob:

Do we have to worry about compatability if we use this mod, e.g. did you have to put scripts onto each of the consumable items themselves? Or did you find a clever different way of doing it.

Im sick and tired of eating glass bottles.

Appreciate the work and all, but maybe syringes should only be recycled if the PC's Medicine skill is low.

What about syringes from stimpacks and super stims? In the crafting recipe they just use regular old syringes.

I knew I forgot a couple from Fallout 3. Thanks!

I'm afraid I had to add the script effect directly in the consumables' effects. I do wonder though if it'd be possible to use a quest script that checks if you consume an item.

Edit: Oh right. "GetIsUsedItem" should work. I'll try it out!

I thought about something similar indeed. And I will integrate it. Thanks. :)

Great name.

Heh, I searched for a couple of minutes for a good name. :P

Looking at the stimpack item, it would prove dificult to effectively remove the syringe and keep it intact, as http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20090504141456/fallout/images/thumb/2/20/FO3_Stimpak.png/363px-FO3_Stimpak.png

Thanks for the feedback. :foodndrink:

Why should syringes be recyclable only if the PC's Medicine skill is low?

Also: Allowing you to refill Stimpak syringes would be awesome and make the fact you can make Stimpaks actually worthwhile (well, in a mod that makes them not-so-common, at least). Sure, it'll be a syringe with a meter thingy on it, but it'd still be useable:p

Second that. I'm guessing the idea is that someone with medical knowledge would discard any syringe after use, but that's just silly if you are using it on yourself and given their scarcity.

Love the mod idea. I'm looking forward to the next time I actually play. :)
