Several different (non-crash) issues

Post » Fri Oct 30, 2009 4:59 pm

Hi,

Apologies, but I have several things to relate so I'm just using one thread. Also, I didn't search prior to posting, so apologies if all these are previously reported. EDIT: The only valuable aspect of this post appears to be the typos report. If anyone can tell me where to report these properly, I'd be grateful.

1) I have just encountered the following issue: I currently have 57 Repair skill unbuffed; I have a Vault 101 Utility Suit, 50%+ CND, Repair +5. When I put on the suit, my repair skill only goes up to 61. I don't recall reading that item buffs were dependent on level, CND etc. Is this a bug?
EDIT: My mistake—caused by not realising I was wearing +1 Luck armour that was boosting all stats by 1, prior to donning the Utility Suit.

2) Several typos near or in the Vernon Hotel: "Consierge" instead of "Concierge" (in the HUD); "to to" instead of "it to" (I think) (in a Terminal display); "takin" instead of "taken" (in a Terminal display). Hopefully a grep will help you find the exact errors I'm referring to.

3) I'd like to also report an issue similar to http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1110455-character-keeps-moving/ reported here: my character often takes one extra step after I release the key, though so far as I can tell only in Sneak mode. Happens consistently and frequently. I was willing to put it down to lag (my PC struggles a tad) but seeing it reported already, I thought I'd offer my experience too.
EDIT: Seems this is a known issue that will probably not be rectified, at least not unless sufficient reason transpires to include it in a later patch. See link above for further details.
Cheers,

S.

Another typo:

"Washington Monument Secuity Terminal" instead of "Security Terminal"

#2: Some of those typos can be attributed to the vast majority of wastelanders not knowing how to even read or write, so you can't expect everyone who can write to know how to spell every word. Others could be just simple typos. Not really a bug, nor a game-stopping problem.

Chance of ever getting patched: 0%

#3: It is a known issue, and Bethesda developers have commented that it is an engine problem they have been unable to fix.

Chance of ever getting patched: 0%

Chance of ever getting any patch for Fallout 3? 0%. They said long ago after the Zeta DLC that they were done with Fallout for good. And if you haven't heard, they have been working on their next game for over 2 years, so they have moved on.

Two of them are from the HUD, so unless the wastelanders designed the game, unlikely they're responsible. The other two are actually taken from pre-war text, so unlikely they're responsible there either.

Others could be just simple typos.

Mmhmm.

Not really a bug

Not a bug at all, in my opinion, which is why I called them typos, under a general heading of "issues."

nor a game-stopping problem.

Agreed. I was under no illusions here. But still a pity to see in an otherwise highly-polished game.

Chance of ever getting patched: 0%

Agreed. See above.

Given that the game was released in North America less than two years ago, I don't think it was unreasonable to post these here. Company of Heroes had an update a couple of months ago, for example. Zeta DLC was only released a year ago. And also, if they've been working on their new game for over two years, then it seems they "moved on" before they even released Fallout 3, which seems a little odd.

None of these issues are gamebreaking or even problomatic. So even if Bethesda were still supporting the game it's unlikely stuff like this would be patched.

Bethesda began pre-production of their next game before /fallout 3 was released, by that point the game was almost finished and art designers, texture makers, writers and a large portion of the Deve team could be reassigned, leaving only the team need to finish the game. That is what Echonite meant by
they have been working on their next game for over 2 years

Also the Company of Heroes update was mostly keyed for the online play as i believe.
