Mass Effect: New Vegas in Space?

Post » Thu Dec 15, 2011 6:04 pm

I was looking into this game called mass effect. It looks pretty deep and supposedly it is mulitplayer as well.

I was thinking to myself, I really enjoyed New Vegas, Like, ALOT! So would I like this game too? What do you guys think?

What I like about New Vegas is that is truely an experiance, you effect the world and your action effect you. And yet, Fallout 3? I just cant play that. For some reason, I don't dig it ...

I cannot really put a finger on why, but only New Vegas has me motivated as a single player game. Mass Effect seems to have mulitplayer, at least the upcoming one.

But would it have the New Vegas qualities that appeal to me?

I'll be reading some reviews for sure but I think Mass Effect could be huge! ( I know I'm late to the party here, with 2 games already being out )

Any way, does anybody have experiance with Mass Effect? I heard the first one is only for XBOX, is that true?

They are all available for PC.

Mass Effect games can be fun, but if you like the free-roaming and world changing nature of Fallout: NV I am not sure if they will appeal to you. You have some freedom to roam around, but the game is mostly linear with any world changing decisions only effecting the 3rd title if at all. I did not feel the ME world responding to my actions. I found them fun to play though, like Fallout 3, but they just can not hold my attention like NV.

Mass effect is one of my favorite game series, but you can't really compare it to fallout. They aren't that similar and the multiplayer(which I believe is a terrible idea) is only going into the third in the series.

However I believe that it is a truly unique experience and it is amazing

My advice would be to play the first.

Otis a particularly good series, but they are distinctly different from Fallout.

Actions you take in ME1 affects the world of ME2, and actions that you take in ME2 affects ME3. So to get the full experience you will need to start at the start.

They both have firearms. That's the only thing they have in common.

Yeah While I do like Mass effect, it's pretty much an on rails 3rd person shooter, with limited options, and onyl a "black and white" or in this case Paragon and renegade view on how you do things. IT really isn't a RPG in the classical sense, it more of a action game with a story.

I've heard that, much like fallout, you can talk to people, learn about the situation and take diplomatic or agressive actions ....

Ive also heard someting about multiple factors effecting the endings... atleast in the third.

Try it... but it's not much like Fallout. It's far more structured and linear.
Also, there isn't a lot of call for skill-checks.

Okay to kill time between RPGs.

The first one was an OK RPG with linear levels and plot (the choices don't make that much of a difference - you can basically be aggressive or diplomatic to the same end); ME2 is a third person corridor shooter with dialogue options.

I really enjoy both Mass Effect games. I think the mulitplayer part they've introduced for ME3 is one of the least-demanded, least wanted additions. It's a single player game.

Like FO and ES games, it works if you get immersed in the storyline. There is character customization, opportunities to recruit/influence others and the ending of the game. Not in the same style or breadth as FO:NV. And as others have said, the levels are more linear - the scope for replayability is really in the different combat methods you choose to use, and the squad you select.

Mass Effect is basically the spiritual successor to Knights of the Old Republic.

Hehe I'm a Mass Effect hardcoe player. A supporter of Cerberus but I changed my Avatar so never mind. Anyway I think you should start off with the first Mass Effect otherwise you miss out on the game series. The first one goes for around 20$ Canadian
Do some reassert and watch some videos on the game. The multiplayer in Mass effect 3 is nothing to be exited about....

I played the second one for PS3, don't have xbox.

I wasn't feeling it. I didn't like the magic aspect. If i ever play again i think i'd try to be an infiltrator... I liked the idea, but didn't think it worked.

I compare it to final fantasy but with shooter combat instead of turn based. I'm just not a big fan of the game type. But it is beutiful to look at, and I really like the story , the world, all the alien designs. To bad the people at Fallout didn't make it.

As for multiplayer, come on!!! How can you play an awesome game like New Vegas or Mass Effect and not want to challenge yourself agianst other players!? It's awesome!!!

Assuming it doesn't take anything away from the single player experiance, why wouldn't you at least try it?

Rocky Balboa said it best, "I don't even think I can win, I just know that if I'm still standing when that last bell goes off, I'm not just another Bum from Brooklyn."

To truly love the games, you need to start at the beginning.

Well except for the fact that depending on your choices in Mass Effect 2 you can lose some of your crew, all of your crew or in fact die yourself.

I honestly think that Fallout and TES players have been spoiled and consider these two game series to be the only true RPGs just because of the massive amount of choice you get. For me personally its far more important for an RPG to have an incredible story, interesting characters and amazing dialogue then an amazing amount of choice. Choice and customization are still necessary to separate itself from other genres, but they aren't as important as the other things.

I imagine that Mass Effect 3 is going to be another Dragon Age 2. A Decent game that tries too hard go give a 'Wow!' factor so it can milk as much money from customers as possible. EA is ruining Bioware (lead designer quit in protest of their design decisions for DA2) and will likely run the developer's single-player titles into the ground within the next 2-3 games and function solely as an MMO cash cow after that.

The games industry is like every other one. A company makes a popular product, company is bought out, product is changed to a flimsy design and mass marketed to make a quick cash-in, then company goes bankrupt after customers realise the new stuff is complete crap. This is true for EVERY industry and there are thousands of examples. Giant corporation buys a company that makes something that works and is popular -> break down its elemental components to barely functioning for the highest rate of return per unit sale -> people realise how [censored] the new product line is and stop buying it -> company goes bankrupt -> corporation throws away the company.

The corporation makes a killing without having to spend effort researching and developing a product people want so it is cheap and effective short-term strategy. Unfortunately, since the corporation holds the patents/copywrites on what was once a popular product it will never be seen again. This strategy makes me sad because I remember stuff that I would gladly continue purchasing today if the companies had not sold out and ruined the product.

I'm just glad that EA hasn't gotten Rockstar.

They tried to get Take Two Interactives which is the company that owns Rockstar. EA offered 2 billion dollars, but Take Two turned it down.
