The Dead Is Dead Thread #9

Post » Fri Dec 16, 2011 7:50 am

Before I continue any further in my DID playthrough, I'll post my update here.

My character, Marcus Reed, has defused te bomb in megaton and saved the sherif from Mr. Burke.

He then journeyed to Arefu to deliver Lucy West's letter, only to easily find out how her parents died. So, I tracked her brother down and saved him from the group he was hanging out with. Now, I'm gonna discover these few locations and scavage any loot I find worth some caps. Heading up to Minefield soon too.

From my recent playing, I avoid mirelurks when possible, for It's a pain to get a Headshot on those bullet sponges.

Marcus Reed
Lvl. 5 and growing...

here's a way to beat Mirelurks:
-find one and make it chase you uphill.
-go around and back down, making it follow you downwards
-get shotgun and crouch, VATS mode.
-???
-PROFIT!!

...or just run up to a wastelander or trader and watch them bullet [censored] the mirelurk.

Good to see ya. And congrats on your progress. I sometime have the same problem. But I'm going in reverse. I've got my currnet character, lvl50, all dlcs done, and all of the sudden I just started picking up everything and anything out of the blue. Wow. I hadn't done any of this with this character, but when I got done with LR, I just cleaned the place out. Now I can't stop. It's like I need LA (looter's anonymous).

Heh, I'm a charter member of that particular organization.

Once I got to the late stages of Bruno's career I didn't feel like looting much of anything, because I knew he wouldn't be selling off again due to being about to finish his run. I also, during the massive sell-a-thon I did with Brianna before starting DM, realized that the low-end stuff was just sitting there in my inventory for run after run, as I sell from most to least valuable, and also that the stuff worth 5 or less was only worth selling precisely because I'd picked up so much of it in the first place.

I just finished DM on Brianna, in fact (she's now L28), and decided to dump everything of value 5 or less that I wouldn't be using to craft, and discovered that it added up to over 600lbs after the reduction from Pack Rat . Debating going even further than enumerated in the previous post, and leaving weapons and armor I won't be using rather than picking them up to repair and sell, however they're the only way I can afford the high-ticket GRA items so I may not have much choice in the matter.

I am the spokesperson of that particular organization, yes. Having beaten Dead Money and most of the way through Honest Hearts, Samantha possesses at least 4 tons of stuff. Weapons to Scrap Metal and batteries to things like Beer and hundreds of damaged tin cans. Every single one of my characters has gathered up everything that isn't nailed down. A lot of them have sold stuff-with the advent of the LR Commissary Terminals, this seems like an even better plan. But most of what this is is making sure that if they ever want to craft something, they have the materials.

I have a new respect for the YCS/186. Even with the variation in Samantha's EW skill(23 inside to 33 outside at night) the YCS/186 is superbly effective as a long-range weapon. About the only weapon of that design used by Samantha. It kills White Legs in one hit, while it's sway makes it unusable in CQB. I would add ROF to that consideration, but I had a character who successfully used the AMR(Pre-GRA) for everything. It's mostly useful when she doesn't want to or can't just run up to a White Leg and disembowel them with She's Embrace or the Embrace of the Mantis King!

Brianna is working her way through Old World Blues now, and is up to level 30. As she's an EW user ammo is a non-issue, and the new GRA heavy EW are performing quite well in there, even against the Roboscorpions. Moved my base to The Sink, and am collecting the personality chips in order to get the place up and running.

I've been doing some sneaking around to practice for my next character, who will be a stealthy sort, and from what I've been seeing so far that run is going to be...interesting, to say the least. Lots of pop-up ambushes, and the Roboscorpions always seem to know where you are and keeping them out of melee will not really be practical, so I expect to take a goodly bit of abuse.

And now Rest in [pieces], Mordecai. Level 12 legion scum. Gunned down by an NCR patrol. Ah well, not much of a loss.

Weirdos!

The only goal I had with looting was I wanted to collect every unique weapon and armor piece, the only exception being the Elite Riot Armor and the other unique Variant. Found both of them but there was no way in hell I was carrying two suits of armor back to the Mojave with me while fighting one-hit wonder deathclaws and swarms of Tunnelers.

I did go on a rather pointless journey for the Humble Cudgel once, though. I just remember exploring every corner of those sewers, the whole time thinking "what the HELL is the point of this place," but at the same time enjoying how detailed the sewers are despite having 0 practical purpose.

On the last DiD thread I started my very first DiD character, but I started with a challenge. I would not have a base of any kind, I would store items in containers and I would use fast travel as little as possible. I did not do this on hardcoe mode because that would be on yet another degree of insane.

Unfortunately after an incredible journey from Goodsprings all the way to Freeside, Jennifer Mui was travelling on the lonely road in between Nipton and the Mojave Outpost to make an offer to the owner of Cassidy Caravans when she was ambushed by a squad of Legion Assassins. Not even the Lil' Devil she had carried from the Gunrunners could hold off four Legion Centurions armed with chainsaws and Assault Carbines. She died on that lonely road, the first body I buried in the Goodsprings cemetary.

Hey guys!

I've been reading through these topics for the past couple of weeks and finally decided to give DID a go.

I started a character that looks like Eli and will use similar weapons, though he will mostly stick to the neutral path. Does anybody have any advice as to what weapons I should use to fit the RP?

I've already got a broad head machete that fits perfectly, ALSID seems like a good fit as well, not sure on which shotgun would be the most fitting seeing as he uses a sawed off pump action in the film. Do you think it would also be acceptable to use thrown explosives and maybe thump thump? (I recall him using a hand grenade on one occasion) I also thought about using the survivalists rifle on the tougher enemies (Deathclaws would be a nightmare with only grenades a handgun and a machete.)

Any ideas for perks?

Edit: Also any ideas for armor?
