Most compatible "major" faction for an Enclave Remna

Post » Thu Dec 15, 2011 11:14 pm

Hi all!

I've started a game of mine off with a certain Enclave fugitive (with the name of, oh say, Augustus Autumn ), and was wondering which of the major Mojave factions would he find to be of most benefit to his goals and values?

All DLCs are installed, if that makes any difference.

Note that I chose to not include Yes Man in the poll, due to the bad taste left in our (ex)-Colonel's mouth by his old AI boss, John Henry Eden.

Thank you all for your inputs!

As an individual who nearly always plays a Remnant character, my personal choice is House. Based on both his vision (restoration of a pre-war society), his use of advanced technology, his desire to serve the NCR a healthy slice of humble pie, and the fact that he's not the legion. As a added bonus he hates the Brotherhood.

Although it really depends on what sort of character you are playing. Generally I find that my Remnant characters hate the NCR, but not enough to side with the savage tribal group which is the Legion. Nor do I wish to kill every NCR soldier in sight, just humiliate the nation as a whole.

However if your character's purpose is vengeance and a desire to watch to world burn after having their crumble in around them (a completely viable roleplay choice by the way), then the Legion may be a better choice.

Yes man could work I suppose, but I've never tried it really, so I can't say from experience.

Never the NCR however, that is unacceptable.

Actually, I did roll http://newvegasnexus.com/imageshare/images/1079527-1296930953.jpg as a New Vegas character. Though I abandoned him after Lonesone Road was released, as it pretty much destroyed 95% of background-based RP in this game, but before that I did get far.

ex-Colonel Autumn, in this scenario, was dismayed having been betrayed by his own boss (let's just say "according to himself", I don't want a flame war here) and tried to make his way to Navarro. Hearing that it had been destroyed, Autumn settled down in Vegas. Flash forward everything else, ex-Colonel Autumn ended up assisting Mr. House. Why? Because of the amusing irony in him always finding his way to computer overlords. Second, he is an eternal second-in-charge, best when having at least a figurehead dealing with the political fallout while Autumn does the dirty work.

My other main Remnants character, a woman born of two Enclave remnants did not know of her roots. The only thing she always had with her was her mother's officer uniform (added with console commands), knowing little of what it meant. While her parents had been quiet about the Enclave they taught her the basic principles of life: mutants are inferior freaks, we are pure strain humans and the only thing that matters is restoration of the United States, and remember to take at least 1 Rad-X a day. Last but not least, the NCR is a plague and is up to no good.

On gameplay basis, the "not knowing" background frees me to work for the NCR (though with a hint of prejudice), while keeping the RP. Throughout the game she heard more and more about the Enclave and after meeting Arcade Gannon she finally realized who she was. Tagged with Mr. House, in part because of his pre-war glory and part because that's the only side I've ever taken, sans one Yes Man playthrough (my first).

Independant.
Only the Enclave knows what needs to be done to Re-build america.

I suppose he/she wouldn't agree with any of the three faction leaders. So independent would be best.

They're all trespassers who need to be exterminated, but House is probably the best horse to back in the short term. You'll administer long-delayed justice to him when he's outlived his usefulness, of course, but he can be used to cripple both the NCR and Legion as well as establish a industrial base in the mojave that the Enclave badly needs.

In considering all the options, I have decided the following for our dear colonel:

- Will work for Mr. House, as he is most likely to rebuild the glory of pre-War America with his technological infrastructure and genius intellect.
- Will do minor NCR missions to a certain point just to gain their trust and rewards (ie. safehouse), as well as to gather intelligence, but will backstab and weaken them later through temporarily aiding the Legion (also gaining their trust and safehouse)
- Will have Arcade as a companion, but will attempt to link up with Remnants as soon as possible (after gaining Legion safehouse access), and have Boone afterwards for remainder of the game

Pistolero: As for what you pointed out about Lonesome Road destroying Col. Autumn's back story... We'll just say he has "selective" memory from a combination of age, getting shot in the head by Benny, and the side effects of that powerful Rad-X he used at Project Purity. ;)

House is the only possible one out of the three.

Why would the NCR be compatible with a faction they were violently warring about three decades earlier?
