So, did anyone buy the Lockpicking perks?

Combine Lockpicking/Pickpocketing into Larceny, bring back an Acrobatics/Athletics type tree that lets me climb sheer surfaces and jump on water and other crazy stuff like that.

I don't know if I would be pro Acrobatics/Athletics making a return unless there was some really compelling perks to go along with them and an interesting way to improve them. Personally I hated having to jump all over the place to up my Acrobatics in Oblivion. Honestly, how often was it really necessary to jump in that game? I would basically be running across a field and decide "hey, I need to be upping my acro skill, let me jump run and level this up, derp".

EDIT: Forgot why I was originally posting. I liked the increase in rare loot and gold of the lockpicking tree but it was ridiculous that you could get the "easier master locks" and "picks no longer break". Shouldn't perks in a perk tree complement each other rather than compete. There is literally no reason whatsoever to get both perks.

Also, I loved the lockpicking minigame. However it might be more fun if there were different kinds of locks or other distractions to picking them similar to Bioshock and it's various lock traps.

I like treasure hunter and golden touch (or whatever it's called). I don't see what everyone's problem with the perks are. The main arguments seem to be with the minigame itself, which kind of has nothing to do with the perks, and the fact that one you get the unbreakable lock pick perk the others become superfluous. But to even get that you need 100 skill and five prerequisite perks, so obviously you have to work on it and invest in it, so I don't get how the polls are so toward no.

For me, it's because the lock picking minigame is so easy in the first place, I'd rather do it with no perks to preserve the fact that locks are even in the game. Otherwise, it's pretty pointless when lockpicks don't matter or you don't even have to search for the sweet spot.

I'm playing a rogue now and I want to pick a few, just up to the one that sets the pick near the sweet spot. I will pick them just for RP reasons though. I know that they are all useless as my warrior can pick a Master lock with ease.

Lockpicking would be more interesting if you could be attacked while picking.

My #1 reason not to put spend any points on Lockpicking;

Saw "Master Lock" :woot:
Broke 6 picks ...... :glare:
Looted 19 gold ... :verymad:

The poll's leaning towards no because While the perks are useful (in making a fairly easy minigame easier), the rewards for lockpicking tend to be crap, there are only so many perk points you can get/use (i think max level is between 79-82) so almost everyone will be spending their perks elsewhere unless they have a fairly limited build and don't know what else to throw them in.
The perks are nice to have if you AddPerk them, but its just as easy (if you're going to use the console) to add the skeleton key and its perk.

not after learning the in game mechanics, no. The smart way to go is not need chests at all, to make money with alchemy, make weapons with smithing, and enchant them to become a God.

Yes, on my last character, unfortunately. The Gold one is the only one that makes any appreciable difference. The magic loot one actually seems to reduce the chances of finding anything good, the wax key makes it harder to level lockpicking, etc.

I thought perhaps I was just overthinking it, but the tree is even worse than it looks. Terrible, terrible design and implementation.

Why remove one usless skill and replace it with another usless skill?

They should have used Fallout's system where you cant even pick a lock if your skill level isn't high enough. This would have given some merit to the skill at least.

I'm okay with most of perks other than the "easier to pick _____ locks," which are mostly negated by skilling up naturally or by other perks.

Lock picks are also so common that conserving them isn't an issue. Another factor working against picking perks.

Finally, there is no penalty for failing to pick a lock e.g. contracting Ataxia or something.

If these issues were addressed it would make picking more valuable and fun.

Remember how in Oblivion lockpicks were EXTREMELY rare so if you ran out you were screwed? (if you didn't have any open lock magic that is).

Well gee, in this game all you have to do is kill five or so bandits and you'll eventually have 20 more lockpicks. That, or go to town and buy all the lockpicks every trader has. Of course I never even had to buy lockpicks because my supply never went below 60.

Damn do I miss the days of gaming where things were hard and real challenges were presented to you.

Then you got the skeleton key at level 10 and just spammed square (PS3) to auto-pick until it worked. Yeah, sooooo hard.

I did pick the first three lockpick perks, up to adept lock. Luckily I'm on the PC, and could use the console to remove them when I realized that they're worthless.

It's silly to avoid these Perks because "you can open locks without them". Of course you can. You can also kill guys with a sword without taking any Perks in 1H Weapons. The Perks make it easier; that's the whole point.

Personally, I find the minigame somewhat tedious. Cutting down the amount of time I spend doing it is a good investment. I plan to take all of the "make it easier" levels on my thief character, all the way up to Master.

I have no intention of maxing out the tree, though. I have no plans to max out any tree on any character in this game. Some of the Perks are redundant or just don't fit my playstyle.
