Some questions for anyone who is using a dual weapon setup.

Post » Thu Dec 15, 2011 7:01 pm

I've played about 200 hours as a one handed beast.

Now I've decided to go dual sword on a new character. Everything was find until I started getting more weapons other than basic steel.

Seems as though there are problems with assigning the favorites..?

When I use the Inventory menu I have no problems. I can assign any weapon to any hand... But not with the favorite?

When using the favorite menu it combines the weapons of the same type so they can't be assigned to both hands... of course this doesn't happen with all weapons. Some weapons work properly..until you upgrade them... then they don't combine, they just can't be selected witht the favorite key..they can only be selected through the favorite menu...and some weapons nothing changes.. but if you activate the weapon with the favorite key.. the key assignment dissapears as it when it's selected it's chosen as a single weapon instead of two. So when I manualy dual arm with swords.. and switch to a dual spell .. I can't switch back to swords because it reset from the favorite menu to nothing.

So far I have had no problems with spells... only weapons.

Is there a guide or mod out that can easily assist ?

I have tried out this mod Interface Hard Coded Key Tweaks by crazy-g... and it seems to fix many other issues, but doesn't address the dual weapon issues.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

If you don't want to use enchants (so that you can rename your weapons) then don't use two identical weapons. This will allow the favorites menu to not weird out by removing one of your weapons from the list.

I really wish we could rename ANy weapon, whether enchanted or not because we could then organize our favorites list and also be able to use two Steel daggers (Superior) in our favorites list without one of them randomly being removed from the list.

Thsi was frustrating me to no end in the beginning of my dual wield playthrough because I hate going back into my inventory all the time. I think we have to pause and use the favorites menu way way to much as it is, let alone go all the way into the inventory. So I started enchanting my weapons, even with very minor enchants, just so I could rename them. Also I started naming something starting with the letter Z so that they would always be at the bottom of the list because Bethesda in their infinite oversight has refused over the course of THREE games to allow us to organize our own lists.

its possible to rename a weapon without enchanting it. I think you go to enchant your weapon normally, rename it then back out at the last moment. I may be wrong but there is a way to do it.

Even still though.. If I have more than one of the same in my inventory.. for some weapons it removes the favorite key from the binding alltogether. So I'm having to go all the way to the inventory only.. and not even use the favorite menu for some weapon sets.

I haven't enchanted anything yet..since I haven't had the need to...the game is just not hard enough for the need to. I'll try it out though and report back.

Duel-wielding ain't all that. I did a duel-wielding character up to level 55 on master difficulty. It gets boring because if you don't kill your enemy with unending power attacks within seconds, you die.

Elven guilded armor + Elven Shield + Elven sword + Elven Greatsword + Elven Warhammer + Glass Warhammer + Glass Waraxe + paralyze + dragonflesh + mass paralyze is more fun.

And hotkeys are even worse! I dearly wish you could hotkey a pair of weapons on a single hotkey.

I am going to have to try and do this in a few minutes then I guess.

My next character won't be enchanting but I would love to be able to name my gear so that I can organize it.

Just favorite both weapons.

Can't because it is grouping them in the favorite menu and putting a (2) at the end. And when you select it with either hand..the other dissappears.

Regardlessly, pressing the hotkey just changes your right weapon, stacked or not. It is poorly design.

After some testing here is what I came up with.

When the item is clean it works perfectly.

When the item is upgraded with either enchantments or smith or both - it breaks the item and causes the issue of grouping in the favorite menu and removes the binding.

When the item is renamed it allows it to work half way.. but only switches the right hand and not both as it did when the item was clean. <<< This will work for me as of now.

Are there no mods out there that fix this ?? I've searched the Nexus for hours looking and nothing comes up.

This annoyed the crap out of me too. Now I just use 1 sword and 1 dagger and it works fine.

Is it possible to mod the damage of a single weapon..?

If so I can just console the damage in as I would normally upgrade it... and just throw away the mod-material for immersion purposes.

This would keep the weapon clean and working fine.
