Q - Storing Items : V

So, I have a question about storage in Skyrim - must the storage actually be in a house that I own to make sure I don't lose anything? OR can I place them in a chest in a guild where I belong without losing the items?

Basically, as I understand it, anything that refreshes is bad. So very few non-house storage places exist for the player.

Guild chests work. Not certain on thieves guild, but you get storage from beginning for College, Jorvaskr, and a "house" at the end of DB questline.

when i start i use faendal house since he is my follower i used that all the way to lvl 20 everything remain there kewl while finishing college quests then i went to jorvaskr use both room dresser and chest there everything remain intact and afterwards i got my house on whiterun

Don't use sacks and barrels and you'll be fine. You can safely store things in most of the game's (formerly) locked chests as they never refresh.
