Did Skyrim Dissappoint YOU

Post » Thu Dec 15, 2011 11:33 pm

Q: Did skyrim dissapoint YOU?
A: Yes and no. The game is amazing and is probably my all-time favourite, but the poor graphical work and certain bugs and glitches are unacceptable for a 2011/2012 game.

Q: Do you feel it is over-hyped?
A: Yessum.

Q: Do you feel bethseda will fix the crashing and bugs?
A: Nope, they will leave it to mods as they always have.

Q: How long have you played TES series?
A: Since Morrowind came out.

Q: Is skyrim worth $60+the cash to put out for the DLCs?
A: I think so.

Questions and Answers (Me asking myself, you guys agree or disagree?):

Q: Did skyrim dissapoint YOU?
A: No, still not disappointed. And I can see many months and probably even years of playing the game and not being disappointed with it ahead of me.

Q: Do you feel it is over-hyped?
A: No, but then I have a pretty thick skin when it comes to hype. Someone promises me the moon, I'll pack my bags for a reasonably high flying plane flight.

Q: Do you feel bethseda will fix the crashing and bugs?
A: Yes but it takes time.

Q: How long have you played TES series?
A: Since Morrowind, but I have played a little bit of Arena and Daggerfall as well.

Q: Is skyrim worth $60+the cash to put out for the DLCs?
A: Hell yes, this game deserves the money, the vast landscape cost money to render out (i have no idea where im going with this but o f*cking well?) - Agreed!

I voted yes. It did disappoint but c'est la vie. The disappointment is not enough to spoil the game.

I have the additional salve of knowing that mods will fix what needs fixing.

Oh right, and this:

Q: Did skyrim disappoint YOU?
A: Yes.

Q: Do you feel it is over-hyped?
A: No. It's still the best game out this year.

Q: Do you feel bethesda will fix the crashing and bugs?
A: Yes and no. They can't catch everything.

Q: How long have you played TES series?
A: I played both Morrowind and Oblivion. I couldn't get passed hour 5 on either.

Q: Is skyrim worth $60+the cash to put out for the DLCs?
A: For all the content and flexibility it offers? Yes!

With respect to your question regarding hype: Hype was only high because fans, new and old, shot that [censored] sky high. Bethesda merely put some commercials out and did some targeted advertising, that's about it. They were reluctant to feed us any new information and when they did, it was the equivalent of throwing an apple core into a room full of locusts. They stuck to their little PR punch-line: "Open world game, dragons, explore, fat loots, you're the dragonborn, etc," and the hype accelerated because fans wanted new info. So, Bethesda over-hyping Skyrim? Bull [censored]. Fans are to blame in that regard. If you want to see over-hype, take a look yonder over at Battlefield 3's 50 million dollar marketing campaign, and the media that circled like vultures over the [censored] storm that ensued during EA and Activision's little dike measuring contest over who would innovate the FPS genre.

Q: Did skyrim dissapoint YOU?
A: Yes, but I was hoping for a game that took the great things from all the open-world RPGs of the past (Ultima 7, Gothic 1-3, other TES games, etc...) and put them all together and/or improved on them. Instead I got Skyrim. Good game, not what I was hoping for. Bethesda is unbelievably amazing at making worlds, unfortunately they don't seem to know what to do with the world once it's built (e.g. quests, loot, balance, population, monster variety, AI, etc...).

Q: Do you feel it is over-hyped?
A: I tried really hard to avoid most of the hype so I couldn't say. I watched a few videos before I bought it and decided it would probably be a good game. I learned a long time ago that the marketing for 90% of games is complete [censored]. Sometimes they even manage to make it difficult to figure out what genre the game is. Heck most "official trailers" don't even show gameplay footage these days, just a bunch of CGI garbage (A Game of Thrones - Genesis comes to mind as a very recent example).

Q: Do you feel Bethesda will fix the crashing and bugs?
A: Probably most of them... eventually. They don't have a great track record and compared to some other companies they are already being really slow and failing badly.

Q: How long have you played TES series?
A: Played Oblivion a lot.

Q: Is Skyrim worth $60+the cash to put out for the DLCs?
A: Yes it was worth $60. I can't say anything about the DLC that's yet to be released because... well, Horse Armor. Of all the DLC for Oblivion some was good, some not so much. It depends what they put out and what the price tag is.

True, the consuming public has a very real role in hype and how it works.

Back lashes usually occur in response to public hype, not the developer/studios advertising.

As a game, it isn't disappointing. It's better than most other games released during the last few years in my opinion, and considering how many hours of entertainment it has to offer, it's more than worth the money. I don't see how anyone can say it's a bad game or not worth the money, unless they simply don't like this kind of game to begin with.

As a TES game however, it's disappointing, and pales in comparison to Morrowind in particular.

A: Never crashed before. and about bugs i hope so but i am not worried.

Q: Did skyrim disappoint YOU?
A: Mildly

Q: Do you feel it is over-hyped?
A: No.

Q: Do you feel bethesda will fix the crashing and bugs?
A: Some more of them probably not all.

Q: How long have you played TES series?
A: Since Morrowind.

Q: Is skyrim worth $60+the cash to put out for the DLCs?
A: Hell frigging yes!

I think a lot of my disappointment comes from limitations imposed by current gen consoles. I can't wait to see what the team can do with next gen hardware. The quest lines especially companions and mages are sort of short and botched as well.

So this is the 2nd post of this same topic but a little more unbiased.

Questions and Answers (Me asking myself, you guys agree or disagree?):

Q: Did skyrim dissapoint YOU?
A: Hell no its a fun game besides the crashing, if modders or bethseda can fix it, it will be the best RPG for years to come

Q: Do you feel it is over-hyped?
A: Yes, but that's marketing

Q: Do you feel bethseda will fix the crashing and bugs?
A: Yes but it takes time. Unless a modder makes one that prevents the crashing and Bethseda implements it into an update.

Q: How long have you played TES series?
A: Since oblivion, but i went back to morrowind to try it out

Q: Is skyrim worth $60+the cash to put out for the DLCs?
A: Hell yes, this game deserves the money, the vast landscape cost money to render out (i have no idea where im going with this but o f*cking well?)

Thanks for reading/posting hope you give your comments and feedback down below and vote to let everyone know what you think. thanks guys and gals PEACE

1. No
2. No, it delivers
3. No, they are not likely to fix 'all' the bugs
4. Morrow - Oblivion, however Skyrim is the only one that's actually kept my attention for more than a couple dozen hours.
5. Value is so subjective, everybody has a differing opinion on worth. To me, 60.00 was a bit high, certainly more than I'd pay for any other games that I've bought, worth it? I don't know, is $4.99 worth a gallon of milk?

Q: Did skyrim dissapoint YOU?
A: Yes and no. Disappointing as in matching expectations... no, it performs as expected from a Bethesda game - largely shallow exploration sim with the good initial impact and feelings dropping down fast as the meaninglessness of it all and other flaws become way too apparent. Disappointing as a game... yes, it leaves so much to hope for and I don't believe I've ever played a game with so much potential yet most of it left in a state of being a mere idea or left completely unexplored.

Q: Do you feel it is over-hyped?
A: Yes, definitely.

Q: Do you feel bethseda will fix the crashing and bugs?
A: At least some of 'em.

Q: How long have you played TES series?
A: Since Morrowind, but I'm more of Fallout and RPG's-in-general fan.

Q: Is skyrim worth $60+the cash to put out for the DLCs?
A: Wouldn't know about DLC's, but as for the sheer time one puts to the game, yes it is worth the money -- as fort the content, not so much.

Q: Did skyrim dissapoint YOU?
No, not at all. On the contrary I am enjoying every minute. I can see the improvements made over Oblivion, I can see where inspiration was taken directly from mods and there is a LOT of that. Not that it is a bad thing by any means, what it is, is a great foundation that mods will take even further and that allows modders to concentrate on additions, rather then pretty much soley on improvements, as was the case in Oblivion. Imho.

Poking around the meshes here and there, personally I feel that this game has masses of potential to be the most modded TES game. Depending on what happens with the CK.

Q: Do you feel it is over-hyped?
I didn't really buy into the hype having learned from Oblivion. It is best not to put too much stock into what is shown to advertise the game. That said, from what little hype I did see, I would say that it actually has lived up to that, for me anyway. It delivered what it promised and more, as far as I am concerned. A vibrant, stunning, interactive virtual world.

Q: Do you feel bethesda will fix the crashing and bugs?
Only the most problematic issues.

Q: How long have you played TES series?
I started with Morrowind back in 2004.

Q: Is skyrim worth $60+the cash to put out for the DLCs?
Skyrim was well worth the money itself, I have no idea if the DLC's will be worth it and will judge those when they appear. I do feel that I got my monies worth, though truth be told I bought this game for the Construction Kit and the years of fun that will give me.

Q: Did skyrim dissapoint YOU?
A: No, I knew this game was going to be something special when I first saw the teaser.

Q: Do you feel it is over-hyped?
A: No, I liked the advertising campaign. The hype just added to the enjoyment of finally playing the game

Q: Do you feel bethseda will fix the crashing and bugs?
A: The minor, non-game-breaking bugs (Because I haven't found anything that has broken my game yet) will be fixed. Bethesda, despite what people say, do care about their customers

Q: How long have you played TES series?
A: Since Arena, just installed my old GOTY copy of Morrowind on my PC, still and awesome game

Q: Is skyrim worth $60+the cash to put out for the DLCs?
A: Yes, many games aren't worth the £40 that we're charged in the UK (DNF for instance) but Skyrim was worth, and will still be worth every penny.

Q: Did skyrim dissapoint YOU?
A: No Skyrim hasn't disappointed me in 191 hours of playing during a month. I look forward to the New Year and the CK.

Q: Do you feel it is over-hyped?
A: After all these years hype is something I tend to not get all hyped about. I don't think it was more hyped than any other game.

Q: Do you feel bethseda will fix the crashing and bugs?
A: I think they will fix the worst of the issues. Hard to see the future it is.

Q: How long have you played TES series?
A: Since Morrowind.

Q: Is skyrim worth $60+the cash to put out for the DLCs?
A: Yes of course it's worth it. You get a lot of bang for your buck when your game time ranges past the 50 hour mark and starts heading into the hundreds.

Q: Did skyrim dissapoint YOU?
A: Yes. Todd's lies, twisting of truths and "streamlining" is all bad. Not to mention bugs. I enjoy the combat, but the gimped skills, lack of content... very disappointing and I don't care if it makes me a bashing flamebaiting troll fan boy.

Q: Do you feel it is over-hyped?
A: Obviously.

Q: Do you feel bethseda will fix the crashing and bugs?
A: We've always been left to fix bugs before. I say they'll fix ~half of them and leave the rest to us. Like with Morrowind/Oblivion.

Q: How long have you played TES series?
A: Since Morrowind, played and enjoyed Daggerfall/Arena.

Q: Is skyrim worth $60+the cash to put out for the DLCs?
A: My assumption is that we'll be having more stupid DLC's ala Oblivion, which AREN'T worth a penny to me. If I can make it myself in < a day I wont pay for it.

No, I just don't like how the interface and everything was designed for playing with an X-Box, and then ported for PC. It's like it was expected for you to play on PC with the 360 controller.

My answers:

Q: Did skyrim dissapoint YOU?
A: No, it's even better then I thought it would be.

Q: Do you feel it is over-hyped?
A: No, not at all.

Q: Do you feel bethseda will fix the crashing and bugs?
A: Partly, at least the worse of them. Bethesda games are always buggy though. I can live with that.

Q: How long have you played TES series?
A: Since Morrowind.

Q: Is skyrim worth $60+the cash to put out for the DLCs?
A: Absolutely. I bought it twice, just so my husband and daughter could play as well.

For me it's the best game since Morrowind, which to me is the best game of al time.

For me Skyrim is a nice game but unfortunately has flaws was well, some I didn't expect and therefore was disappointed.
Bethesda is amazing in creating detailed worlds and I love how great the world in Skyrim is.
But in my eyes, they are not very good in filling those worlds with good content.
The writing could be a lot better, many quests are simply boring and bad designed, mediocre voice acting, few interesting NPCs and after a while, the game feels so repetitive...
A lot of those flaws seems to me like they just aimed for quantity and in exchange dropped quality.
Same with the companions and romance. Tons of people to choose from, but very little dialogue to know those people better and make them believable characters. Especially after Obisidan showed with New Vegas how good written companions can be an asset to a game I didn't expect Bethesda to come with something like this.
I didn't really expect this, but was nevertheless still a bit sad that the game gave me so little choices how to solve quests. Most are pretty much straight forward, kill this/get that and return, not much freedom to do the quest with a completely different outcome. The civil war quest line was nice, at least I could take sides and neither was good nor bad but 99% of the quests play exactly the same if I play the game a second time, I can only change how I kill all enemies this time.
