Smithing makes the game too easy?

Post » Fri Dec 16, 2011 10:27 am

I just started my replaying the game as a Nord warrior with heavy armor and with a 2-handed weapon. I took up smithing and it seems that smithing can give you some really good advantages. I just made my dwarven armor and I'm lvl 10. Normal guys can't even touch me and bosses aren't that hard either. If I happen to get in a pinch, I just use my Nord racial ability and fear them.

What do you guys think?

I avoid it after using it on my first character, it got so annoying I had to turn it up to master. And i like to play on adept cause it feels like you are making progress and being strong, but bosses can still beat you

I don't mind using it. It helps give me an edge. Plus I usually don't level up fast so after staying with the same equipment for a long time I want to try something new, instead of waiting for my leveled gear, except for occasional NPCs I could try killing for their outfits.

I plan to spend the first three hours of my next new game smithing my character into the middle of next week.

I played my current and first play through in the correct way and now I'm not overpowered enough for my liking. I need to be sweeping away all who stand before me instead of dieing all the time.

There is a ot of fun to be had being overpowered. Thouse that wish to take that away from the game are not considering the likes of me who loves to do that. Basically if you know how to overpower yourself and you don't like it then don't do it.

Simples *squeek*

Smithing doesn't overpower me.

Then again, I tend to take measures to underpower myself. I don't mix crafting skills, don't use something my character wouldn't and even sometimes don't use potions.

I think armor doesn't have enough counteracting influences, and once it reaches the upper levels becomes ridiculous with regards to how far it extends the player's effective health pool (50% doubles the eHP, 80% is five times the eHP). More enemies need to make use of ignore armor abilities and there needs to be weakness effects to counteract high resistances, especially the universal magic resistance stat. Bethesda should've also taken a cue from modders and F:NV hardcoe mode by reducing the immediate power of health potions so that they couldn't be an effective health pool extension. These changes might have helped the game's challenge remain a little more constant and manageable. As it is, the game fluctuates between extremely lethal and extremely easy depending on how much the player has invested in defense against the type of attack used.

That said, Elder Dragons on Expert/Master have sharp and pointy teeth no matter your armor.

I put it on expert, I didn't really see an improvement.

smithing only makes it overpowered when used in synergy with the alchemy/enchanting boosts to obtain the over 100 skill improvements and through rotating between alchemy and enchanting obtaining beter than store bought potions which increase your bsmithing to previously unreacheable levels.

Not from me, The search button on these forums is a joke anyway. I have searched for things numerous times. Then end up wading through pages and pages of threads for one tiny answer.

As for smithing I use it to a degree. I will level it up little bits at a time, So I don't gimp my combat skills and then enjoy making my own stuff. If you use it the right way. You can make gear better then what you loot or buy.

I use smithing and enchant, but I still manage to make the game fun.

I play on Master, use nothing higher than steel because I like the way it looks on my character, and never, ever use potions because my brutish character thinks potions are for the WEAK AND FEEBLE!

I'm sure that'd still be a cakewalk for some talented hardcoe gamers here, but I still have a blast and some situations can still be challenging. :-)
