Things for which I am thankful

Post » Fri Dec 16, 2011 5:45 pm

- Bears that growl constantly to let you know where they are
- Wolves that howl constantly to let you know where they are
- Butt-hurt bandits who let you know where they are because they can't stopping [censored]ing about their ex-girlfriends and confusing college decisions

How trusting other characters are that you won't take their things when they're not looking.

It isn't forbidden around here, even though the way some of the threads have been going, it might appear so :P

I for one am having an absolute blast with Skyrim. If there is a single thing I had to choose though...it has to be the dungeons! Absolutely amazing, and they are all very different from each other. I'm 70 hours in, Level 30, and have barely touched any of the MQ and Guild quests. I just came across Blackreach today  . Just gorgeous!

On the negative side...probably the quality of some of the main quests and how they seem fairly dumbed down with no consequence to your actions...and finding locations being as simple as looking at your onboard GPS map at all times.

Still...just an amazing game so far!

The theme. Skyrim is awesome just to think about because of the way it so adeptly captures my imagination. The ideas, focus, and theme are brilliant, and very much appreciated. Thinking about Skyrim literally makes me want to go to frozen wastelands and tussle with massive beasts.

Speak for yourself plz. :)

I don't hate Bethesda but I'm upset about mistakes they made. I would hope they do read the other "silly" threads so they hear our complaints and potentially do something about it in the future (though odds seem to be they won't).

edit: to fit in: I'm thankful for a relatively captivating game with a lot of nice content.

The civil war - a lovely political backdrop to the main quest, similiar to Morrowind, and I can finally join the Legion again, and fight for the Empire. It's criminal that we couldn't do so in Cyrodil, home of the Empire itself.

The rivers. Flowing water, one of the biggest absentees from Oblivion. No more still-water rivers.

Yes and life is good :foodndrink:

More things am thankful for-

Fabulous sound when using my Koss headphones. Truly an unequaled immersive experiance.
Being able to upload my screenshots to Steam without any annoying ads in the background.
Flameable liquids on dungeon floors. Just found out about this last night ha ha.
The desolate deathlike wind in dungeons.
The multiple ways of entering and exiting a dungeon.
Witches and Crowhags.
Seeing Spriggans relaxing in their natural habitats.
Being able to improve weapons and armor.
Improving skills through use.
Perks.
The 3D map.
Remappable keys.
Day and night life schedules for npcs and wildlife.
Underwater wrecks and clam diving.
Fish and the ability to catch them.
The humongous vast view of the artic Skyrim landscape with blazing fast framerates.
Adjustable graphic settings.
Flirting female npcs which are tough and sixy.
Old people.
Children.
The wood architecture of Skyrim housing.
The stone architecture of Skyrim cities.
The different city politics throughout Skyrim.
Not having a meter when holding my breath underwater. More immersive this way with a bit of scary guess work deciding when to surface so i wont drown.
The stamina system making stamina potions and stamina increasing ingrediants important to use.
The realism of npc and enemy dwellings as if Bethesda had gone to survival camp for a week to see what it would be like to live in the wild as a Nord.
The animal fur and being able to remove fur from animals.
Hunting.

And a whole lot more Ya Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! :bonk: :woot: :bonk:

Hail Bethesda! They can never be thanked enough.

How trusting other characters are that you won't take their things when they're not looking.

If you take something, they'll send you three heavies who will tell you "We are here to teach you a lesson." and kill you. Whoever you steal from will send you these thugs.

I'm thankful to Bethesda for not creating dragons that have four legs and two wings. Their dragons have two legs, two wings and use their wings to walk on the floor like some of the first flying dinosaurs did. :foodndrink:

I like the openness of Skyrim, yea the other TES games had it too but for some reason I just really love Skyrim's environment! Oblivion seemed just seemed stale.

I love the detailed and immersive world. No game has ever came close to Skyrim and Morrowind for such rich and detailed worlds. This is one of the two best ever Elder Scrolls worlds ever created. The immersive world is the games high point.

I'm thankful for the sound.

When I cast dual fireballs and hear the satisfying boom and see the camera shake, and when the enemy roars in pain--Bethesda, I thank you in my thoughts.

When I Shout in town and hear someone exclaiming "The Thu'um!", I become more immersed, and thankful for it.

When I creep through a dungeon on silent feet and can localize where an enemy is simply by hearing the sound of its movement, I am grateful (and readying spells.)

The distant echo of a dragon's roar, the BOOM of a dragon landing nearby and the effect of absorbing its soul--oh yeah.

I am thankful for

Mud crabs with amazing camouflage ability and not being detected til they are actually seen even when walking nearby at a river stream etc. Excellent design of nature.

The audio immersing me in euphoric peace at night and mind boggling terror at any time. When encountering a Dragon it was as if he/she was in the room with me as i felt my bookshelf speakers vibrate with the flapping of wings and the thunderous slamming of landing Dragon feet on the ground.

Being able to improve and play my character anyway i want whether its a jack of all trades or a fixed with detailed skills and perks single class type.

The buetiful handcrafted world with all its gorgeous and grisly furnishings.

The realistic look and action of many things like traps with moving levers and sliding doors which make sound even when no longer visible as if moving into their final position inside the floor or wall.

The amazing aliveness of Skyrim letting me know my character is not alone in the world and that he is not the only one facing the positive or negative consequences of actions.

The interactive environment with things like flamable liquids and the ability to pick up and place items by using the activate key and keeping it pressed while moving an object.

The multpurpose ability of keys having different uses depending on what screen the player is in and how the keys are pressed.

The spooky bats in caves.

The glowing eyes of the Draugh and how they fade out when they are..terminated.

How deceptively deadly the Falmer are who seem steatlh based but can carry themselves brutally in melee aswell.

How am rewarded for taking my time exploring with excruciating detail and a slow pace every nook and cranny of Skyrim.

The mature, serious and fun tone of Skyrim.

I'm thankful for ...

The prettiness of it all. Sure, there are blocky textures. But overall it's one of the most stunning games I've played in a long while. If I cried, I'd have cried upon seeing the outside of Solitude for the first time. Skyrim is a great example of what tech and art can achieve ...

The variety of voices. I hated, hated, HATED how few voices there were in previous TES titles. It's one of the things that most put me off about the games. Either don't voice anything at all, or do it properly. Sure, there are some voices that are overused. On the whole, though, Skyrim has done an amazing job at voice/character variety ...

The spell system. I like that spell-making is gone. It's just not my kind of thing. Yes, there is a minimal selection of spells available, but I like them. Could magic be improved overall? Yes. But they've done the minimum as well as could be expected ...

The crafting. There are hiccups here and there- we can't make arrows, for instance- but it's largely a very good system ...

The water. It may be the best water I've seen in an RPG title yet.

No six/relationships. Yeah, you can marry people, but that's about it. Games aren't yet at the point where these can be emulated properly, so I'm glad Skyrim just left them out.

More things i am thankful for

Npcs who react to what am wearing and actually identifying what type of armor am wearing.

The mesmerizing mix of tavern music from inspiring vocals to guitar and harp like instrumentals.

The shocking differences when playing different characters. My warhammer wielding Orc is devastating with two handed weapons while i prefer fleshing out my Nord as a one handed weilder of weapons. While my Dark Elf witch is brutal with magic and a blade for backup.

The terrifying Dragons and their realistic design as someone mentioned before on how they use their wings to walk as dinosaurs did back in the prehistoric age.

The immersive audio work which makes using headphones a real euphoric joy.

The very interesting npcs and how they deal with the good times and daily nonsense of living in Skyrim. Its like seeing a book on commonsense being played out as a lesson of wisdom by the npcs for the player. Love how the Dark Elfs deal with Nords bullying and how it comes out they're like that with all the races not just Dark Elfs. I can see some real world counterparts to that.

The economy system and how the player can get money by other means besides dungeon exploring such as mining, wood chopping, selling wheat etc.
