Please... What's with the annoying dragon spawns?

Post » Fri Dec 16, 2011 4:51 pm

I'm not sure if the patch did something to the dragon spawns, but this is getting silly. It's like every corner I turn there's a dragon to fight. I hate the fact that they also re-spawn on old battle grounds. I think right now i have like 20 unusued souls, I mean come one...

They could have made the dragons similar to demons souls/dark you know where you actually FEAR the enemy. I know the dragons in skyrim can instant kill you if they swallow you hole, but that rarely happens to me.

A) Why are the dragons so easy to kill, normal enemies are far more lethal. Love the fact every guard is scared of the dragons, yet a couple of archers can easily kill a dragon.

B) Why are there so many annoying dragon spawns?

C) Why aren't the dragons attacking more human settlements? It seems to be like theres now an army of dragons in skyrim.

Is there a mod that reduces the annoying spawns?

Thanks

I have a tough time killing dragons solo. But they seem to turn up everywhere.

Meanwhile in my game there are no random dragons, only the ones at the marked locations. And main quest is at the point where i need to go to Riften.

On the character I'm playing now, they're very rare.

22 hours in and only 5 random dragons (at the point in the MQ where I have to go to Riften as well).

On my 41 hour character who has beaten the MQ, they seem to constantly attack me.

No random dragons for me for at least 10 or 20 hours. I figure it has something to do with...

a) me mostly staying at the Reach during that time, where it is difficult to fight dragons due to the terrain

B) me being in the stage of the MQ were I have to find the relique of an ancient dragon born far in the north of the map

c) simply coincidence. If you search with google you'll find as many players complaining about too many dragons as the ones complaining about too less...

On my second play-throe I did not go far enough in the main plot for the dragons to begin spawning, and I have found it far more enjoyable.

After a level on, dragons are the new cliff racers. At least the omnipresent wolves go away with 1 hit.

I strongly suggest not returning the bleak falls barrow dragonplate to the mage. The mob that drops the dragonplate doesn't despawn after you kill it, so just don't loot the thing and leave it there until you decide to follow the main quest.

Why aren't the dragons attacking more human settlements?

Oh gods, please no. You should be glad they aren't wiping out the settlements iny our game.
It's getting ridiculous near Kynesgrove (and that fortress west of Whiterun now I think of it) in my playthrough. Sometimes I wish I had a quadruple Bofors 40 mm.

Some will experience differences becuase some may or may not have completed quest which introduces dragons, not that this is the case but just a factor on people who may see not allot and then "allot". :flamethrower:

Ya ya another one of these threads... There will be a mod that let's you adjust the spawn rates just like there was in Oblivion but it's not going to be made before CK is released so you'll have to wait until january/february.

IIRC dragon spawns are somewhat broken if you fast travel a lot, because apparently the frequency of dragon spawns is directly tied to the amount of time you spend fast traveling, or rather "in-game time progression spent". Seeing as it takes 48 hours to FT in-game from Riften to Solitude, if you FT everywhere or decently enough, you'll cause more dragons to spawn.

This is all conjecture, but it might explain why players like me who almost never FT only run into a dragon once in a blue moon even though I'm decently far in the MQ (its a shame though they are still realitively easy to beat at level 20), while some players run into dragons everywhere at every minute when they FT a lot. I guess bethesda simply didn't think how this would affect the game, or they though that because players who fast travel a lot would miss out on much of the gameworld where a dragon spawn would happen, they make spawns happen where you FT to or soon after you finish a fast travel.

That reminds me of another change I did with the game: Timescale. I set mine so that an ingame day equals realtime 4 hours (so I get 2 hours of daylight). Since I'm using a mod that makes nights really dark I had to make this change in order to enjoy the game.

Doing that probably influenced the dragon spawn, too I guess.

Ha, finally! A random dragon. My conclusion, maybe it helps some of you dragon haters...and lover:

If you want to get many random dragons you should...

- leave the timescale at or close to it's normal value (20min daylight, 40min a whole day, timescale=20)
- make use from fast travel often

If you want to get less random dragons you should...

- set the timescale so that the days are longer (timescale=12 equals 2h for a day, or timescale=6 equals 4h for a day)
- seldom / never use fast travel

I never fast traveled, only did so half an hour ago and promptly encountered a random dragon. The last 20 to 25 hours before (I mean real hours, not ingame hours) I did not see one single random dragon, seriously! I use timescale=6 in addition.
