Melee Vs magic

Post » Fri Dec 16, 2011 12:32 pm

So I was registered on here a long time ago shortly after Morrowinds release but I don't remember the tag so I will start again. I have beee lurking here every once in a while when I can pull myself away from Shool, Work and of course Skyrim. I have listened to a lot of people complain about how weak the magic is so I recently stumbled across something with no real planning but it was interting. Basically I played one of the main mage guild quests with my first character who completed the main quest line mostly to get filled soul gems. I found the dungeon to be fairly challenging and after I completed it I wondered how my pure magic user would fair going through it, I had already attemtped it at a lower level with him and decided I need to grow some whiskers on him before I reattempted. Here is the write up that I posted on a blog for the new site I am building let me know what you think.

Oh and the site is under construction so very raw. I plan on doing a few more write up of this crazy charactor concept I have plus some video. I didn't tthink about this until after I had completed both crawls so no video.

Sounds like your companion is the biggest burden, you're wasting magika healing her when you could be using it on offensive spells. If you can conjure up familiars and atronachs then let them do the tanking and take the damage. Keep your companion back and instead fall back to him/her if things get tough, and just use him/her to carry any extra loot like a mule. Aside from that sounds good keep it up :)

Agaisn't mages, melee is the best choice.Since they use Spirit ward, that blocks almost all your magic damage.

Really? Hmm k thanks I will look in to that.

Yah Lydia makes things interesting. I probably could but hey I get off on her saying "A healing spell! are you a priest!?" . It probably would make more tactical sense but I look at it as experience is experience regardless off if it comes from destruction or restoration. On a side note I gave her the priest staff I got form the Dragon Priest now she wield the lightning wand in one hand and the fire wall wand in the other now it is overkill. I was running to another quest location and saw a rabbit so I casually threw a firebolt at it. Next thing I know there is fire and lightning all over the place I just had to laugh.

Statistically speaking, melee will always trump magic.

Well why I agree that my all rounder melee does well against them I have also been owned by them especially if I am suprised and they have range. One thing I haven't seen used by NPC mages are the illusion spells such as fear and calm. I have used them mostly with my assasin and monk character they are battle changers if a melee charater is not attacking or running away they are going to lose.
