Why can't I attack while on a Horse?

Post » Fri Dec 16, 2011 6:47 am

Just wondering... It seems like my character can learn everything but this. We're able to be invisible, use words of power, slay dragons, save the world... but we don't know how to do this O_o?

lack of programming/coding.

Even if you could just get the horse to kick something while being mounted. AoC is a prime example.

Because it would ruin exploration in a way if you could just ride past cutting down everything in your path rather than getting your ass off the saddle and exploring. Also, it would require a lot of work just like how destructible environments would.

At least that's why I think.

You must dismount to fight.

Because of poor choices. I figured mounted combat was the logical next step for Skyrim. Then after they started announcing all the cutting, I knew we'd be lucky to even have mounts again, much less attack from them. As it is, Mounts are pretty much only good for RPing.

lol. Yeah. the key word being, YOU. It's funny that mobs are scripted to go after the horse you are riding, and not you.

It would be a little more in-depth to actually get dismounted...

Yeah it would be so simple to, because horses already send you flying when they fall to far and die, but you eventually get back on your feet. If enemies could snipe you off your horse that would be super cool.

Mounted combat is hard to balance. If there aren't many (or any) mounted opponents then killing people becomes easy, you can just repeatedly strafe them. If enemies can be mounted this suddenly makes combat much more difficult for unmounted individuals.

I don't use mounts, and the lack of mounted combat is a major reason for this. But I do understand the difficulty in properly implementing it.

I wanted an actual riding skill that encompassed everything horse related. If Daggerfall can have mounted combat, then so can we.

well not to mention the fact that horses are/do have attack moves/animations. I have no clue why the devs thought it would be good just to make them solo tag along aggro catchers, that get in the way...

/edit
when you dismount. It's like, YO, HORSE...I DISMOUNTED TO GET INTO COMBAT. W..T..F.. ARE. YOU... DOING?

No harder than adding a melee system.
horse has health and stamina. can perform limited amount of attacks, cooldown based. quite simple actually.
also strafing with the horses in this game would probably be harder than actually making a melee system for the horses. At least on the PC, using KB+M.
My horse experience was far from nimble and agile.

Snow trolls would be a heck of a lot easier with a lance.

A power attack vs a mounted pc/npc results in an animation of the person on the horse being pulled/knocked off.

So a pc vs a bandit may get a 2nd or 3rd hit off but if the AI was programmed to "learn" a little to compensate for repetitiveness, then that pc will get taken off the horse. As far as, enemies that die within 2 hits go, it's a waste of time to get off the horse anyway. Most of the game takes place inside where horses can't go.

Great, they can return spears at the same time.

Enemies already have different levels of difficulty and Skyrim introduced, well, dragons. I'd say the advantage of flying is already greater than that of a mounted foe.

Mount and Blade has an extensive combat system (directional blocking and attacking, kicking, and mounted combat) that I find strange no one takes advantage of. I remember seeing a video on M&B style combat mod for Oblivion, but that was it.

Another option is to let us control our horses attack I think...

We can use our horses hind legs to kick away enemies and the front legs to stomp on said enemies.

Polearms would help balance this. If polearms did extra damage at higher speeds I think it could work well.
