I just joined the magic college. Whats next

Post » Fri Dec 16, 2011 5:10 pm

As you could probably tell, i'm a massive noob at this game. I want to be a magic guy and i heard you need to join the magic college in "winterhold" or something. I've done this. Now i'm just following this guy around on like a quest in "Saarthyll"? I want to buy some magic spells and level up quickly. Am i doing the right thing. What are some tips and tricks to level up quickly in magic, I'm thinking "destruction" and maybe something else. Whats perks should i try and get??

Sorry if a mispelt anything.

Go to the standing stones for the Warrior/Mage/Thief and pick the Mage stone so you level magical schools faster. Then become Arch Mage, which isn't hard, or long. Actually its the shortest of all of the guilds, and buy spell Tomes from the people in your guild. A lot are vendors as well, to sell the loot you get. Wear robes for magicka regen and magical cost reduction. Or take enchanting and go Armor, the Battlemage route.

You don't want to "level up quickly" in this game... you want to play it. It's not a game where you need to be a certain level to do a certain thing. Leveling adds little bells and whistles to your character but it's the story that you create that makes these games great. Keep playing. Follow that guy to Saarthyll. Listen to his story, and read some of the books you'll find lying about. You'll find that there's dozens of different factions and quest lines that you can start anytime, or even run concurently.

ED: The mage stone is just outside of the fort where your character started, just east of it.

All three are located near where you start the game. Cant remember exactly, I don't really use them, but they are near a lake.

Eugh...the Mage's College is a big disappointment. Don't expect there to be a bunch of classes or anything, it's mostly a lot of dungeon crawling (sadly). There are some vendors with spells there and others who can train you for a fee, but that's all the "teaching" you'll receive.

Don't level up quickly.

Trust me, RUINS it.

Also, don't fast travel. Makes the game more exciting.

I don't necessarily know what path you are trying to take, but I'm going to assume you are going for a Mage character, yes?

In that case I suggest you choose a couple of schools of magic to focus on (focusing on all of them is mostly a bad idea, in my opinion).
Get a hold of some good robes that boost your Magicka. Seek the blessings of Akatosh (10% faster magicka regen), or Julianos who gives you 25 extra points of Magicka.

From there all you need is to buy spell tomes from merchants and the like, and even try to find some staves if you please.

I think the Mage's College is awesome. I haven't played very much of it so far, though.

I'll add my voice to the don't level up quickly. Just be. Be your character and live in the world you have there. People will want your help and some will give you guidance. Do a lot of listening and talk to everyone and read or at least open the books because they will lead you somewhere. Take it slow and enjoy your experience...it'll all go exactly the way you want it to because it'll respond to your choices. Have fun above anything. :)
