Enchanting Potion Question

Post » Fri Dec 16, 2011 1:36 pm

I'm currently level 37 with 100 Enchanting and Smithing. I have not yet pursued Alchemy, but I may depending on my ability to craft the items that I want with out it. 50% Smithing and 25% Enchanting potions are the highest the shop dealers are selling atm and I'm pretty happy with those percentages, but the Enchanting potions are for sale so rarely that it's a bit frustrating.

I've already made 4 items that give me +25% Smithing and I wear them and drink a +50% potion when I upgrade basic gear to legendary status and am pretty happy with that.

I like naming my enchanted gear, but doing so runs down the precious clock of 60 seconds I fear and I only have a few +25% Enchanting potions. I'm happy enough with the bonus at my level, but I wish I had twice as many potions so that I can take the time to name all my gear with out running out of time.

Does any one know if the game stops time at any point during the enchanting process, or is it a flat 60 seconds no matter what you are doing during the process? I'm also wondering if there is any easy way to tell when the potion wears off during the enchanting process so I don't waste items/gems.

I figure if I'm lucky and go fast I can proli make 4 items in 60 seconds with out pushing my luck too much which isn't bad, but only 3 would be safer.

How high of an enchanting potion can a player make?

With my no alchemy skill I can make a whopping 4% one. I could spend 5 points to boost that 100% and I hope I can make 4 items at 25% for another one hundred percent increase, but 200% bonus on 4% is only 12% which isn't very exciting. I'm sure there must be some thing else.

I don't think Alchemy over all is of much interest to me with this character so I don't imagine I'll dump a ton of points in to it just so I can make more enchanting pots, but I thought I'd get some more info on it first.

I just hate the thought of spending the time to grind my other two skills to 100 only to nerf the enchantments them selves due to being short a few potions. I can't imagine wasting the mats either to make a second best end product.

As a side note I'm running around with orc armor atm and my companion is in all dwarven. I've already made two full sets of ebony armor/weapons and one set of dredaic. My orc armor is plenty strong atm even on 'master' difficulty so I'm not planning on using the demon armor any time soon, but I would like to enchant two full sets of the ebony gear for use at some point in the low to mid 40's.

Bumping this guy's post, since it matches my situation exactly, and I'd like to hear thoughts on it.

How exactly does the clock run out on potions? Do loading screens count? Does the time spent naming items count?

Do differently-named potions that do the same thing stack?

It does not. However, if you select the item, enchantment(s) and soul gem with the bonuses, you can take as long as you want naming the item. Only if you change one of the three after the time limit will it go back to normal.

34% I believe is the normal highest. That's with the enchant-alchemy-enchant-alchemy-enchant loop. Though I do have several of 1767863491487% that used the fortify resto potion glitch on. (Note - Number is approximate and I only used it on a pair of boots for carry weight.)

ty for the response. I assume the loop is use a fortify enchant potion to make fortify alchemy gear. Then use the fortify alchemy gear to make a better fortify enchantment potion. Then make better fortify alchemy gear. Rinse and repeat until you can get no better result and the best fortify enchantment potion you can.

That being the case I'm pretty happy with +25% considering my level. I might be able to squeeze in 4 items in one minute, but man that will be nerve wracking :P I'll save my top armor for 30% enchantment potions (that will be good enough for me) which I proli wont even wear until at least level 50.

One other thought.

Is there a console command to lengthen the time of the enchantment potions?

Yep. Like I said, I think 34% enchanting potions is the max you can get from that. Or it'd take a whole lot more loops to get higher since the percentage points are so low that it'd take a few loops to get it to round up to the next number.

Just make sure to hit up the alchemy vendors in the cities and look for the enchant/smithing reagents each time. Also, Riften and Markareth are 1 day/1 hour fast travel from each other. Since vendors take 2 days to restock, you can just fast travel between the two and they'll have restocked each time you land in a city. Not really a glitch, but helps out a bit if you have a bit to sell or are looking for reagents.

Similar boat here, but I have to say at some point the items being smithed and enchanted are basically more powerful than anything in the game. I (and many others) may have spoiled some of the later levels by spamming these skills.

Next character will be spam-free, if possible. Maybe I'll eat something too.

It seems a good majority of players shy away from smithing/enchanting and to an extent alchemy starting on their second play through. It's too easy to be over powered too quickly. My second character has sworn off all three (except making health/magicka potions).
