I came to the Brotherhood with my sneaking archery assassin at level 45 - making the missions pretty decent, but my skill perks and armor have been pretty overkill, so the contracts were pretty easy.
First of all I came to the Thieves Guild - following their 'main' quests got me to find the Brotherhood.. I'm not familiar with another way of getting to them earlier in the game.

Just a note, you don't level up by doing quests, you level up by using your skills. Quests just give you a reason to use your skills.

If you embraced the life of an assassin and have a sneak, archery and light armor above 60 and illusion at about 45/50ish you will be just fine doing all the quests. Sneaking is the most important one just beware of the glitch that often accompanies it when it is at 100.

I think the only real requirement is high sneak + invisibility spell. If you have that you’re golden.

Cool, thanks for the info :)
I've been extremely bad at asking about rumors - first now, when collecting as much side-quests as possible, I spend more time talking to people and see if I can get a hold of extra missions :woot:

Some rumors result in extra missions. That sometimes pay off with a extra follower.

Speaking of the Dark Brotherhood, yesterday I had two assassins who came after me. Somebody did the black sacrament and want's me dead. Is there a way to figure out who?
And how to stop these assassins? Just joining the brotherhood or what?

I believe there is usually a note on the bodies, but for me it wasnt the Dark Brotherhood. Had some hired goons attack me because I stole ebony ore/ Ingots from the Orcs at Gloombound Mine(i think thats right). Heck its the best place to go when your making Daedric armor lol.

Yeah, but the note only says that there is someone who wants me dead. No who that someone is. If they want me dead, I what them dead. Seems only fair :whistling:

I got those goons to one time, they where no match for my follower. Didn't even had to step of my horse. :snoring:

I started the DB in the mid-40s and have really been enjoying it. I chose the http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Poisoned#Perks perk mid-way through and am finding it very useful to complete the contracts without being seen. I'm still not quite finished with the questline but I have only had a bounty on my head once. Other useful DB skills and perks include the http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Muffle spell and http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Quiet_Casting#Perks.

I joined very early in the game, but spread the quests out. I just finished it at level 30. AND I am a mage. No sneaking, and used Bound Sword a couple of times, but mostly spells. It's doable! ( I HAVE paid some hefty bounties, though!)

I started a new character just last night with the sole purpose of joining the DB.....progressed in the MQ just far enough to be able to use shouts and then joined at level 7 or so.

The game level scales to a degree (more sensibly than Oblivion at least...) so I don't know why being a certain level is so important?

The biggest problem with the DB is near the end mine got all kinds of messed up. I haven't started the DB quest line yet with my second Thief. I'm waiting for a patch to fix all of them. :)

I started the DB line at level 12 and it was a great run since I was looking for assassin build. Still havent done the first TG quest. The great thing about the game is that it scales accordingly.

I tried to google this and all I get are ways to cheat to get sneak to 100. I see nothing for when sneak is already at 100.

Please and thank you! :)

http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Sneak_%28Skyrim%29

"Similar to the pickpocket bug, wearing equipment with Fortify Sneak enchantment will actually lower your sneaking success when you are at or near the cap for this skill. "

I imagine that is the glitch/bug that is being referred to.

I think you can join at level 1 tbh.

Ask the dude behind the counter in the Inn in Riverwood about rumours.
He will guide you to a weird emo kid who then guides you to the "botherhood" as you call it :)

As soon as I left Helgen, I went and played around in Whiterun a little bit to get a level or two, then at level fourish I took the wagon to Windhelm and joined them. Free suit of enchanted armor plus your double backstab gloves. I'd say join ASAP and do the missions whenever you feel like it. That character is level 25 or so now and I still haven't done mission one yet.

If you play a male character I'd recommend the cowl mask fix mod which adds the mask back for male characters, and the dark brotherhood armor recolor mod which makes the suit either all black or DB themed red hand armor. You can get these over at Nexus.

Great, I'm not ready to join them. I first want to do the extra quest from Cicero. But I can't seem to find that little Jester.

Any idea on how to find out who want's you dead?
