Is Skyrim broken / level scaling worth ****?

Post » Fri Dec 16, 2011 7:01 am

I get killed a lot, and I mean a lot. It wouldn be a problem for me if it were my first stroll as a low level character but...

I'm lvl 44 now, dragonscale armour (legendary - plus about 70skill and 85% from perks ), ebonic weapons (legen-dary aslo). Dualwielding. Pretty good with archery and some magic. Armour rating somewhere in 500-600 range. Damage: about 100 melee, 60 ranged plus nechantements both cases.
So WHY THE HELL do I have such troubles taking down a camp of forsworn? They basically one-shot me O_O while I have to strike at 'em SEVERAL times using both weapons to kill them! It takes TWO GADDAMNED DUAL POWERSTRIKES (fully upgraded perks plus 25% damage boost from enchanting) TO TAKE DOWN FORSWORN PILLAGER with LEATHER ARMOUR!
W.T.F?
I backstabbed-shot pilliger with a bow (3x damage) and had only chipped one sixth of his health. DRAGONS take more damage from that!

Dualwielding forsworn one powerattack (one handed) always kills me. Getting too close is ending with a kill animation on me. Archers - one or two arrows and I'm done. Not to mention their shaman or whoever kills me with one ligtning bolt. ONE.

Did 1.3 patch brake something? Again?

Its annoying as hell. When did bandits and forsworn get so powerful? What are they drinking? I want it too.

What is the problem? Can anyone explain?

That's level scaling for you, the higher your level the weaker get in comparasion to the strongest enemies. The game plays best if stay below level 30.

What difficulty are you playing on mate? The difficulty scales pretty drastically as you play on harder ones. Say you're playing on expert, you'll be doing 0.75x damage while enemies will be doing 1.5x damage, so effectively you're doing half the damage they are. On Master, you do 0.5x while they do 2x, so they do 4x the damage you do to them!

1.3 on master I'm not having much issue as a dual wield character. I think my swords are rated 170 some each. That's including 22% one hand damage x2 and a amulet that has 25%. I'm also using heavy armor over light so I have like 800 some armor rating, well over the cap. Now archery was a bit rough at first... But that has gotten better as I've got it almost max and many of the perks for it.

Oh and I'm level 52

Don't want to assume anything, but sounds like you're playing on Master. This kind of stuff shouldn't be happening on lower difficulty levels. I've played a good amount on Adept, Expert, and Master. On master, I've found it more essential to use a sword and board combo as I take a ton of damage from enemies.

I see your problem right here, dual wielding. Dual wielding is a very dangerous combat style especially if you have an entire camp of forsworn bearing down on you. Find a defensible position, whip out your a shield and have at it.

I really like that this game requires you to use tactics sometimes, I dont want to play a sub par hack and slash.

I'm assuming your on a higher difficulty? I play on normal and have not really had an issue since level 18. Once I got my armor set made and invested in the right perks and enchantements it actually took quite a bit to hurt me significantly, let alone kill me. At level 53 the only things that really do me any harm are Forsworn Briarhearts, Draugr Deathlords/Overlords, Ancient Dragons, and swarms of Falmer.

I really need to make a video of dw play on master... Show people its not dual wielding that makes the character weak.

At master I'm wearing 390 AR in heavy armor to make the game a bit harder, level 50. It's not hard, jsut lower the difficulty.

Yeah apparently the game is completely boinked passed lvl 30. Im archer/conjuration and on master I have gotten hit once in the past 15 hours, and ironically that was a 1shot arrow.

I like the way the game scales enemies. I'm just playing at the default setting, whatever that is and I still find difficult opponents at level 50. By this stage in previous games, Oblivion, F3 etc, I'm so powerful that fights are just a chore, Skyrim on the other hand cycles through being hard, challenging and easy on a regular basis, just when I think it's getting dull, things start to fight back and win.

Playing on ADEPT.
Armour about 400.
ONE Forsworn Briarhearts ligtning and I'm dead.
ONE power attack from pilliger and I'm DEAD

My damage output:
Armsman 80%
Savage strike 25%
Dual savagery 50% (+Dual flurry 35% faster)
Enchantments 25% damage boost
=180% damage on dualwielding power strike, am I right?

I do 129dam. Times four when dualstriking = 516dam x180% = 1445. Forsworn have only hide armour, right? SO HOW MUCH HEALTH DO THEY HAVE?!

Did it brake something? I'm not sure, but if it did it should have stopped by now.

Try to change to any other difficulty, save the game and exit. Start and load your game then change it to adept before save and restart again. There have been reports where the game difficulty is bugged and struck at master no matter what was shown in the options.

Funny thing after patch 1.3 - I was playing expert, now I'm at adept difficulty. And graphical options were reset to default HIGH settings. Not to mention all prompts and tutorial tips show up again whenever I do something "new" for the second time.
