View distance svcks! enemies fade in.

Post » Fri Dec 16, 2011 9:08 am

hey when I first started skyrim it recommended medium settings I think. It's like medium low right now. The game looks not bad and I never lag.

my only problem is the view distance with enemies though. Like if I see them on the radar red and they are coming after me. I can't actually see them until they are like 20 feet from me. So it svcks for like sneaking around or trying to plan an attack.

which setting will fix this? is it one of the fade things in display? or do I have to change this before launching skyrim.

and will this destroy my framerate.

thanks

I have a fairly outdated Radeon 3870, running around minimum specs, but my computer can handle having maximum actor draw distance, FXAA, and two above minimum object draw distance (required for the ceilings in larger dungeons to render properly).

But yeah, just crank up "Actor Draw Distance". Be sure to play around with other settings to get the performance you want.

Skyrim told me I should play the game at low settings. I bumped most things up to medium and further increased the fade-in distance of enemies, and I've been fine.

You can effect the fade-in distances of various things in the game options.

Not that I should care, really, but why make the title so aggressive...?

Maybe it's just my frail sensibilities.

Actor fade is fine, when its maxed you can see rly far, like in miles far.

Yeah I finally turned mine up after getting shot with arrows from bad guys I couldn't even see. "Did that tree just shoot me with an arrow?"

In the game hit Esc then it's "Settings" to "Display" to "Actor Fade". You don't have to max it out to see the critters before they see you. I have it a bit below mid level and I can see them before they see me coming.
