Please Explain the fortify skill problem with 1.3

Post » Fri Dec 16, 2011 3:11 pm

I can't find a straight answer anywhere I go so please help me.

I keep hearing that with 1.3, if you fortify certain skills past 100, they actually reset to zero. An example of what I keep hearing. If I have one-handed skill at 100 and then fortify it by 40% my skill will actually roll back to 40. People are saying that only certain skills are affected like sneak. Some say it's everything. Some say that perks increasing damage are affected. Some say they aren't.

1. Is this true?

2. What skills are affected and how?

3. Some are saying that you can go past 100 but not past another higher number. I hear something like 250 being thrown around a lot. Is this the case?

Please explain this stuff to me because I keep hearing everyone say something different.

Thanks for your time.

Your welcome. They are all wrong. You can be more than 100... if you like. But, only if you want to fight the code. Otherwise, you are damned.

Meh I have this bug happen to the display of the numbers, but it does not necessarily mean that the skill itself is reverting to a lower number. For example, my Archery is like 100 and I have a 20% ring and enchant so my Archery skill shows as ~40 on the display, but I am hitting everything the same as I was when the display showed ~140. It appears to just be the display of the values.

Okay.. When patch 1.3 on PS3 comes out I will not download it.. I will wait intill they all scream about it.. If they don't then I guess I will download it..

Also now I am going to make such godly weapons right now so then I have a little thing to remember before the patch..

I'm sorry, what?

I think part of your post is missing. What does fight the code mean?

Edit: Just found this on Gamefaqs.

Again, haven't encountered any problem. On a char with 100/100/100 alch/smith/ench, and the relevant perks, a +32% enchanting potion (highest poss without the resto pot bug) works just fine, and a +130% smithing potion + fortify smithing gear works just perfectly too.

The only issue that exists with values going over to 0 are people using the resto pot bug, and it's not because they're getting values over 100; they get values so high that they reset to very low values (like 4% enchanting potions). But if they just stop when they're getting ~50000% enchanting pots and they'll be fine.

That answers all my fears. As long as I don't try to exploit, I'll be fine.
