Will magic resistance enchantment protect me from dragons?

Post » Fri Dec 16, 2011 5:24 pm

This might seem like a stupid question but I was just wondering if I enchant armor/rings... With resist magic, will it protect me from dragons? (I know it caps out at 85% but still...)
Also, a location of a resist magic item for me to disenchant would be awesome.
Thank you :)

The way I understand it...

Original 1.0 (Yes)
Patch 1.1 (Yes)
Patch 1.2 (No - Resistances broken)
Patch 1.3 (Yes)

So if you are using patch 1.2 your resistances on items, races, etc, will all be ineffective. If you are still stuck using patch 1.2 and are desperate for resistance then the Atronach Stone will help.

I think it does, but Im not 100% sure.
I know fire resistance helps against fire breath and ice resitance against ice breath, so it seems logical.

Pretty sure it does. They use elemental attacks so it is safe to assume it does. It's reasonable to think so.

check with all the sellers out there, one is bound to have something you can disenchant with magic resist on it. As far as a guaranteed location Im not aware of any

Ah sorry, misunderstood the question :D

Yes, assuming your resistances are working as they should be then Magic Resistance covers all the elements (Fire, Frost, Shock) assuming those elements are generated by spells (presumably including dragon breath). If you stand in a pool of oil and torch it then Magic Resistance won't help you vs Fire though.

You might wonder why bother using Elemental Resistance at all if Magic Resistance covers elemental damage (when generated by spells), given you have no plans to either set yourself alight or prance naked through the snow, and generally speaking Magic Resistance is the superior form of protection. Except (as you say) Magic Resistance caps at 85% whereas Elemental Resistance stacks up to 100%, and it is always possible you might get fried by a mechanical trap...?
