Hi everyone,

I love reading these forums and I was wondering if anyone knows what to do when you have lost your follower?

Wait for about 24 hours and your companion will catch up with you.. Usually you can wait for like 3, but 24 hours is the longest I've had to wait. :) If you mean dead, they're dead, finished, gone to the Skyrim afterlife or whatever it's called.

You can fast travel to where you are and they'll show or keep going and eventually they show up. Unless they're dead someplace.

If you have told them to "wait" and you don't remember where that was, after about 24 in-game hours you'll receive a notification that "you're follower is tired of waiting and is returning home." In that case, simply go to where you originally met them and then re-recruit them.

What if none of that is happening?
I waited now 3 days, and no sign of Lydia. I fast travelled to many usual places like Solitude or Whiterun. Also, I tried to get another follower, so I know that I still have one. I tried Lydia back at the Dragonsreach, no sign of her. I just remember that maybe last time i saw her was when i went up mountain to see the Greybeards. There is unfortunately only one verry windy path to there and I think i read somewhere that followers can't jump or won't follow up or down some tough terrain. So if she's lost on the path there, I thought I'd make it easy and transport up there near Greybeards hold or down at the base of the mountain in that town.
But no dice.
So now I wonder if perhaps I have a quest started that requires me to meet my new temp companion, in which case I guess Lydia was temporarily removed as mine and is waiting. But in that case, would she not act as if dismissed? and go back to Dragonsreach?

any input?

Maybe she was killed by that Frost troll, see if her body is there. Although she usually dies when multiple attackers gang up on her.

Cheer that they won't be getting in the way anymore?

Most of the time they catch up with you but if not they usually return home. There's also a slight chance that your follower died at some point while being separated from you.

If you're on PC there's a console command.

I ran into a frost troll leaving greybeards so she might have died. Plus I accidentally attacked her a few times and she said something like, I don't need this and left me

Do you remember where you last were with her? This happened to me with J'zargo. I took him with me on a mission in a Dwemer ruin. I thought I had lost him and then I was ambushed by Falmers. After I dispatched them I moved on, hoping that J'zargo would catch up, but he never did. So, I left the ruin, got Vorstag, went back and re-traced my steps. Sure enough, there was poor, poor J'zargo, a dead cat. I was heartbroken and I couldn't just leave him there... so well, I resurrected him. LOL After I rezzed him, he said something like. "You hurt J'zargo too much, I will cannot travel with you anymore." LOL

The followers shouldn't have any issues climbing the 7000 steps up to High Hrothgar. I took Vorstag up there and he made it without issues.

If you won't find her body and she won't come back to you, I guess you just have to let her go. Are you able to take a new companion?

I just went through this with Lydia...no idea where the fool got to when I had to go do Proving Honor with Farkas.

Assuming your follower is alive and assuming you are running on PC, you can use the console to teleport to wherever your follower is:
  • look up the follower by name: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:People
  • make a note of the RefID for the character (e.g., Lydia is 000A2C94)
  • open the console using the tilde (~) key, normally at the top left corner of your keyboard
  • using the RefID you looked up, issue the command player.moveto RefID
for example, to go to Lydia the command would be player.moveto 000A2C94
  • use the tilde key again to close the console.

Worked for me this morning. I don't know whether the fool would have eventually shown up on her own or not.
