Skyrim was fun ... for a while ...

Post » Fri Dec 16, 2011 10:26 am

I really hate posting this morbid topics about a game I did really like ... but I just think for the sake of putting my 2 cents in for once or maybe my moneys worth from the game.

Anyway , I really enjoyed this game .. I couldnt stop playing it but then something unexpected happened ( which I like to blame on the game developers as well as myself ). If you follow the main quest line it`ll take you from whiterun , too the Throat of the World , too Riften , Riverwood and everywhere and this is cool .. if the developers didnt put a bunch of useless NPC`s that add nothing to the game but give you repetitive small , misc quests , these types of quests just give me the feeling that a week before testing the developers took a look at the game and said : "damn this game wont give the hours we promised , therefore we must add hundreds of misc quests" , together with the bugs and ( what I like to call ) wholes or gaps in most of the NPC`s chats , like talking to this one NPC about how it lost a family member ( like the other 900 around the world ) then I get bored and leave the chat and then hear the NPC suddenly get happy and say "bye now" it just doesnt flow. Its gotten to a point where I put off the main story line so long while doing this unending chain of misc quests that I have gotten bored of the game and cant find the patients to even try attempt the rest of the main quest or anyother part of the game. I am not asking for my money back or anything (I am saying i got my moneys worth) but if bethesda expects me ,and hundreds other which I know feel the same, to buy the next game in The Elder Scrolls then PLEASE spend less time on making this game a grind fest and bug fest and more time of the realism ... like I watch a video of Witcher 2 ( sry to mention it , since I know you`ve heard this comparison hundreds of times ) and how they even made the NPC`s stand under cover when its raining in the world ... this type of detail is what makes a game ,but skyrim just feels boring now (which was expected but only after i have finished the game like 3 times but walking through fire seems more fun than finishing the game even once).

Tell me what you guys think : If you agree , dont agree or maybe only agree with parts of what i have said.

I don't agree with your statement Bethesda spends times creating bugs to the game on purpose. As a matter of fact, that makes me not take anything else you say seriously.

Having people take cover in the rain would be cool but there are far more important features I would want Skyrim to have before that. Witcher 2 is a good game on it's own but it's not the same as Skyrim. I prefer Skyrim over Witcher 2 despite what I feel Skyrim is missing because it's a damn fun do whatever the hell you want game that just needs some complexity added back to it.

In the end you go for the game that you like, not what others like.

Then don't do it!

Every day theres a minimun of 5 threads like this one where people conplain how the game dissapointed them or something among those lines. I know forums are for discussion but this threads are very repetitive and often steal the place for other better threads so please if you got something to complain about use one of the other 9001 threads that talk about exactly the same.

I tried to keep the flaming down by writing " I dont mean it , but " ; " I enjoyed it , but " ... BUT ... the only thing I forgot was actual writing seems to confuse ppl , hence next time I`ll add pictures and videos and in that way I wud make it idiot proof therefore flame proof.

I agree, Witcher was a very unique game with many special touches that gave it a real world feel but it lacked in character--you can only play one person. I do wish they had found a way to stretch the imagination and add to it the ability to play a female character. Witcher got old very fast for me. I still haven't finished the main quest of Skyrim because I'm doing all the small quests and I haven't critiqued the dialog like you have so it seems ok to me. :unsure2:

There's too many quests? Too repetitive I can agree with to a point, but too many? This is where a little imagination really comes in handy. When I get that "don't know what to do" feeling I just turn all my quests off and wander, I'll usually find something new within twenty minutes. Make your own goals, just go with the flow until you naturally cone back to something.

As for the whole immersive world thing, again, I can agree it's not the greatest, but with so much in the game I can forgive it. From what I've heard The Witcher series is brilliant, but it also has its own set of downfalls. I've always enjoyed TES for its freedom because it's that which lets my imagination fill in the gaps.

You sound like a person that makes sense. I am guilty in the fact that I havent actually played witcher 2 and already compareing them ( which I know is wrong ) but from a game that already had a storyline , an area , city names , basically everything but the texture was there before they started I`d expect a little more time in the detail in both the graphics and dialogue not to mention a corporation and nearly 14 years of previous games of financial backing to actual get that done but it wasnt there ... so I do blame the developers since they just seem lazy or maybe the fact they put this on every platform which limits them since a PS3 cant do what a computer does therefore the computer suffers. Just I expected more.

I don't envy Bethesda they're position. It's true that I'd love for Skyrim to be more, and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't slightly disappointed. That said it's really hard to get the balance. They're shipping for the same price as any other game, yet have to spend five times as long to even get close to what they want compared to competitors in other genres.

Of course that means each game must ship more copies to get the profit, which means multi-platform. That means hardware limitations, which will have an effect on the final product. As a PS3 gamer I will say that if TES were PC exclusive then it could be a lot more than it is, the question is whether a single platform market would create enough profits to make the whole thigh possible. The honest answer? I dint think it could.

That's why Bethesda releases the nodding tools. It may seen like a cop-out to some, but at least it's a way fir PC users to get closer to what is truly possible.

PS: Sorry for the spelling, my fingers can't keep up with my brain sometimes.

Glitches aside, I enjoyed the game from top to bottom. Sure I have my nitpicks, who doesn't? But it didn't get "old" for me at any point.

I had a good Lulz out of that.

Anyways, only thing i can say about those miscellaneous quests is I wish they were longer and had some more background, i hated the, my father won't let me adventure, i go talk to someone, bam 5 min quest, but i mean, it adds diversity, there are some long ones, short ones(lol) and other things, overall i thought the game was good, although for me it didn't have the Otherworldly feel that TES3 and TES4 did.

Personally i wish there was some more background and the game had more going on, instead of, you win for the empire, games done, you win for the stormcloads, games done, MainQuest didn't effect the world really like you thought it would, if the world was going to end, and the Thalmor, they just don't have enough to do with the game for me, but i haven't done everything yet so i may have missed something crucial with them, i did finish the MQ though.

Im sorry, but when the norm is for game publishers to release 5 to 8 hour games, then a company like Bethesda releases a game with over 100 hrs of playtime for the same price...bugs and all I'll deal with Bethesda.
Where the hell else are you going to find a game with a huge open world like this? Most titles released today leave me feeling ripped off...I say the more content the better.
