What happened to Bruma Architecture?

Post » Fri Dec 16, 2011 1:10 pm

I haven't found a city or village resembling the Bruma architecture which was billed as traditional nordic, I especially notice this with the absence of basemants, which I thought was to keep warmth from below ground. Not a gripe or anything, just curiosity, anyone know what happened there?

Bruma struck me as more modern nordic or "generic middle agey." Looking at the stavekirkes of Norway and other old norse design elements from the Bronze age forward, Skyrim touched on it much more accurately. So it was probably just a case of more attention to detail. For example Whiterun.

There are quite a few basemants in this game.

Just to note, Basemants are more for the Foundation than for the occupants. It is to make sure the footings are below the frost line. That people decided to use these for living space is just taking advantage of what has to be there anyway.

To that end, if you are building on top of a big rock, then frost heaving is not an issue.

Riftin seems to be the closest to bruma imo. Most houses, if not all, have basemants, and most are made of wood.

Very simple observations though on my part, not based on anything.
