Mages, Midas Has Come To Save The Magic System!

Post » Fri Dec 16, 2011 1:48 pm

Those of you who have played Oblivion on PC, are sure to recognize Midas :) I heard a lot of complaints about the lack of magic spells in Skyrim but guess what?

Midas is here to save the day!

http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=3413# - 10 New Spells Added.

Just seen the mod on Skyrim because it became a hot file, so sorry if this is old news! I'm just excited and had to post this =)

I wish there was more a description off the spells. It is good to see the community starting to modify the core elements.

First ray of sunshine I've had since 11/11/11. I'm tempted to try this now, but I'm waiting for the CK and hopefully spellmaking so that I can play the true mage I was denied thanks to Bethesda.

pretty sure that is not possible, if it is it would probably be really bad, but there may be a way to make the spells level as you do

Nah, I'm interested in making my own spell, not just raising their damage. Oh well. Someone will make a spell creation mod.

So... does "Summon Luggage" just summon luggage, or does it summon "The" Luggage, teeth and thousands of feet included?

I debate whether it would be impossible or not. Theoretically you could make it an extension of the pre-existing enchanting system and go from there. It would, however, be very difficult to pull off properly. And you'd still only end up with a system much like oblivions, which left a great deal to be desired.

I think it spell creation will be modded in eventually, but Midas Magic isn't about vanilla spells. It's about finding and using completely new spells, a whole new type of magic in fact, coupled with fun quests and puzzles to acquire them.

I had so much fun with Midas Magic in Oblivion, I'm ecstatic that he's doing a version for Skyrim.

I am sure someone will mod it in, I do think that making it will be a little hard so it might take a while. Worst case scenario you’ll just have to make one via CK and inject it into the game. If the CK is anything like its predecessors you really won’t need to be tech savvy at all to do something like that.

Not really. It's very likely possible. And a modder-made spell crafting system may probably be better and more comprehensive than an official one(if Bethesda ever wants to make one).
Just look at Battlehorn Castle and compare it to other castle mods on tesnexus. Of course I mean the better ones, not everyone of them.

But at this stage without the CK making a spell crafting system may be too complicated. As soon as the CK is released, I guess nothing is impossible(assuming the CK this time is as completed as the GECK or CS).

I was surprised that Bethesda didn't learn a thing from the Midas Magic mod for Oblivion about making magic fun and interesting, especially since it was so popular. The College of Winterhold was an absolute disappointment. I was hoping that in Skyrim, to be qualified to become Arch Mage would require your character to have extensive knowledge of magic as a requirement, but nope. One of my characters in Skyrim quickly became Arch Mage, and he's nearly a novice in magic. Xilver has stated that he plans on adding a lot more to the Skyrim Midas Magic mod once he gets his hands on the CK; this is good news indeed.

(From the Midas Spell Mod Description Page @ Skyrimnexus)
Summon Luggage summons a Dwemer Spider for now. Although he won't carry items yet, activating him gives you the Steed Stone effect that lets you carry more.

So I'm guessing in the future, the Dwemer Spider will be like a summonable walking chest.

I'm still confident Bethesda will see people's complaints about the lack of spell-making and include it in a DLC (regardless of your opinion on the whole "I'm not paying for something that was in previous games" argument, you can't say it isn't better than nothing).

I'm not so sure of Bethesda implementing a Spell-Making system in Skyrim (although if they do, it would be great) but I'm confident enough to say that they will add lots of new spells in the DLCs, it would be foolish for Bethesda not to. If they don't, they'll look super lazy, with modders doing what they should have done (although the situation is already like that) + modders doing a much better job content-wise than Bethesda themselves (which, to a point, is already true as well). Let's just hope they learn something from the amazing modding community and actually try to do a much better job than they are currently doing.
