Horrible Accents of the Nord (Guards) in Skyrim

Post » Sat Dec 17, 2011 12:59 am

Well you have Arnold Nord, Magnús Ver Magnússon Nord, and the female Nords that sound like they're having trouble forming any words at all.

It kinda irritates me sometimes but then I remember that's what the northfolk actually sound like when they speak English.

Heh, I love them, but I'm a child of the eighties so I grew up with bad accents on tv :D

All the fake arnold's are just horrible. it would have been funny to have a small number of named NPC's with that voice. but have every other guard is just nightmarish. plus, every npc has WAY to many random converstions AND they follow you through doors to say more random [censored]!

I think they are a bit silly, but then again they are genuine Scandinavians so I understand it.

I think it adds a little spice to the thing. That female who did Mjoll along with female guards always makes me smile.

So what if they sound more German than Scandinavian? Tamriel Nords aren't Scandinavians.

In an ideal fantasy world, they wouldn't sound like any race on Earth... but i'll gladly take German-sounding accents over American-sounding accents.

I've always hated the Nords, Imperials and Wood Elves. Since Morrowind the only the Wood Elves have gotten better.

No. Guard voices are great. Only irritating voice is the voice of Nazeem.

With the way Beth over emphasizes accents, I'm quite suprised that the English accents aren't cockney, and the American accent aren't southerners trying to sound northern or, even worse, northerners trying to sound southern. :cold:

I also hate that they decided to give the Dunmer Australlian accents.

It's supposed to sound like a Scandinavian accent. You know - Nords, Norway, Scandinavia, Skyrim...

I like it, and it's better than "HAIL!" in Oblivion all the damn time.

They sound so horrible. Every time they open their mouth my ears begin to bleed. Even though (or maybe because) I'm german it sound just bad.

Am I the only one who feels like that?

If you're German, then why the hell do you even call those German accents? Doesn't sound German at all.

And yet there's not a single Scandinavian accent to be found.

Ahnold means we're in friggin' Austria.
That woman sounds like she's from Romania.
The Dunmer are friggin' Australian.
Many Nords and Imperials sound British or Irish.
And that first Imperial Legion guard (who might escort you out of Helgen) sounds French.

I swear to god, they took 70 voice actors, stuck them in a room and said "ok try to sound european" without realizing how stupid of an order that is. Then lo and behold, none of them can agree on where the HELL we actually are...

I think you need to re-evaluate what an Australian accent is...because there isn't one to be found in this game.

Oh you poor buggers. Now you know how it feels like when game developers gets the accents wrong.

Any Australians play Dead Island?

They sound like Kiwi's to me.

That is an Austrian accent. You sir, must visit Austria. I did, and EVERY single man you talk to sounds like Arnold. It's one of the coolest things I have ever experienced. :D

I think all the accents sound fantastic. They are very authentic and Nordic sounding. They did a great job...

How in the heck do accents, that by your description are Austrian, sound Nordic? I was expecting maybe a Swedish Viking type of thing (remember Mattias from Mercenaries?) or maybe Finnish. Even the queen's english is always a good default.

In a related topic (accents in the game) my character talked to Azura this morning for the first time. She sounded like my f**king accountant in Santa Monica (California).

What's next? A Beach Boys soundtrack?

The "Arnold Guards" get are a bit silly but I'm able to ignore them. However, the American accents saturating this midevil type of land drive me to distraction.

I love the game but the voice acting largely svcks. Which seems to be a staple of this series.

Because Austrian and Swedish accents sound very very similiar, and Swedish is pretty damn Nordic, ergo Austrian sounds the part.
