I spent ages trying to find out how to get into Rivet city because I did not see the intercom for a while, lol.

Can't blame you, same [censor] happened to me when I first played Fallout 3.

Did the same thing too. Went through the metros and ended up at Rivet City and couldn't figure how to get over there so I just said what the hell and I'll come back later when a quest tells me to go there. I thought it was like the Citadel where you have to progress the main quest before you can go in.
