How to permanently change the FOV?

Post » Tue Nov 03, 2009 5:13 pm

Hello!

Oblivion is set to have a field of view of 75° by default. I prefer a wider field of view (90°). How to permanently set it in Oblivion?
The "fov" command only works until I switch from 1st to 3rd person view and back, or until I mount a horse. Then the FOV is reset to 75. There's also a "fDefaultFOV" setting in the Oblivion_default.ini file, but it seems to have no effect.

Please help.

The DEfault_ini is not the correct file to edit -- that is only a partial file the game uses to create the Oblivion.ini file if it does not find one (located in My Games\Oblivion\ folder by default ) it is that ini file that you want to change (but I'm not sure if even changing it will make the change permanent )

Thanks for the fast reply Patriarch. Editing the default FOV in the Oblivion.ini file seems to work permanently indeed, however the menus and the HUD are then further away from the borders of the screen (http://img831.imageshack.us/img831/188/screenshot0d.jpg) and the mouse behaves oddly (I have to click further away from the buttons to activate them, like if I had to click where they're positioned with the default FOV instead of where they really appear). Is there a way to fix this?

Not sure but maybe using a mod that changes the UI like http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=11280 and here is an http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=21541 for it as well

Since they change the UI they may allow for better positioning and fix the mouse click positioning also !

I'm pretty sure menus will still look messed up even if you use a UI mod, you're best bet is to use a mod to adjust you FOV. http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=23080 looks like it should do the job.

Edit: I think Streamline also has a setting to adjust your FOV, too.
