Constructive critism

Hello! Well there was one thing that annoyed me about the new elder scrolls game and that was..... there's no unlock spells! what gives Bethseda? Sure this spell is a natural fit for Alteration and it totally breaks immersion being a bad ass dragonborn sorceress who has to go around picking locks like some common thief.

so what are the things that annoyed you about the game? keep it brief, simple, on topic and most of all NO SPOILERS!!!!

one of the stones gives you something similar for expert and lower. one day use though

My turn now:

Poor optimization in general I feel the game has been rushed bugs are inevitable yes but the amount can be controlled and how much the game works on my rig which can arguably be called top of the line (within reasonable cost) is crashing more then Minecraft did without allocating more ram to Java.

Only the noble thief has the skill and patience to obtain that which is locked away...

And more logical recognition for stuff you do in game... Surely they could of spent a little more time on that, I tire of hearing how I'm the new recruit for the companions long after I've climbed to the top of the guild...

So far what bothers me the most is every friendly NPC being too friendly.
Getting within 3 feet of someone isn't an invitation to hear their thoughts.
Especially when I am already in a conversation with someone!

I loved toting Veronica around in New Vegas, because she had a personality, a story, and was just fun to have around. Now the companions feel like robots.

I would love to see a patch that made it so NPC's talked a little less to me.
Now it seems that every time I walk by they feel the need to tell me their line, sometimes following me into a shop to do it.
It would be wonderful if this feature could be toned down a bit.

It annoyed me that I went straight from a novice mage to Archmage. Was there noone else better qualified for the job?! Noone?!

I don't like how the game feels like there wasn't alot in the beginning, and then they tried to put in alot of stuff at the last minute.

I don't think you can call methodically putting a dagger into a Table "rushing the game" or a sight of buried folk under an Avalanch BUT it does feel like alot of which is there was...placed in post haste

I have a few items that irk me. One is kind of spoilish. Read it if you dare.

Item 1
Spoiler

It makes no sense to me that Cicero's clothes have a 20% fortify barter enchantment and the player can only enchant an amulet with Fortify Barter. Surely a set of fines clothes with this enchantment would better serve the merchant transactions.
Along the same vein, the lack of merchants having enough septims to buy goods in the game. Seems like a waste of perks just to increase the amount of gold merchants have on hand. Why doesn't this happen natively?

Item 2
Where are the knowledge guru's that provide a reason for clearing a fort you hear about? How come we can't approach the Captain of the Guard to learn more details about certain groups when you hear about them?

Item 3
Why do Stewards issue bounties and not the Captain of the Guard?

Item 4
The aforementioned need of every NPC to say something irrelevant or clever.

Item 5
Why doesn't every alchemist table have an alchemist's pouch on it like the one in Whiterun?

Here's my minor nitpick. Torches. I like to have a steady supply of them, but it seems stores never sell them. So I am hording torches from dungeon walls and corpses.

I played Skyrim for some time, completed most of its content but it bored me. I couldn't pinpoint the reason i was bored or not interested in replaying it etc until i got back to FO3 and FNV.

So i started playing FNV and FO3 again and even if i had played these games 5 times as much as Skyrim i fell in love with them all over again. Why?

-Reminded me how true quests should be. 3-4 quest options and outcomes seemed alien after playing Skyrim. Virtually, in these two games -FO3 and FNV - especially FNV - there is not even a simple fetch quest without depth and different outcomes.
I was amazed all over again and it reminded of what a truly good game looks like.
-Npcs felt damn real and reacted to almost everything you did. You could immerse yourself easily not even realizing that you were playing a game with bad AI npcs or brainless dolls. Dialogs were more believable.
-Everything i did in the world had some impact.
-Character development was far better with unique and incredibly interesting perks unlike Skyrim's 50%-mana-cost-reduction or +20%-damage style perks.

The fun fact is that i prefer medieval theme rpgs unlike Fallout but Skyrim is so lacking as an rpg compared to it.

1. Notes/journals leading to active quests that would enhance the game play. Click for a more elaborate explanation.
Spoiler
I think people are missing that much because the are so "streamlined" to quests... By that, i mean, that they think that the only quests in the game are the ones pointed in your map and in your journal.. but no..

Every cave i go, every ruins, every camps, everywhere i go i try to find some "clues".... I mean to find some Journals or maybe a book... and then i read it, and then this Journal for example, didn't activated any quest, there's nothing on my map or my journal, BUT, i read it, and in it it says that e.g the author of the Journal was scared to go on that road because there are lots of Bandits, and that she/he knew they probably stay in a cave nearby that Road. This didn't activated any questlines or anything like that, and then i go and search for this cave, when i find it, i go inside, kill the bandits, and there is another Journal, this one is from the Leader of this Bandits, i open it, this didn't activated any quests, but i read it and it led to kinda a conspiracy of Bandits for example..

This was just an example, but if you don't do that, you are certainly missing alot of the game.. Because this game is not all about this Marked Quests on your map and your Journal... There's so much things to do and explore, that are really interesting, but just if you don't Limit yourself to the "Marked Quests"...

Been looking for a thread about exactly this but didn't find one but I'm glad I saw your reply here.

Personally I have been extremly dissapointed over the lack of journals/notes that leads to an active quest. It would make exploring so much more interesting to me. I see your point regarding reading them and then trying to decrypt the information. Unfortunately I'm a bit to lazy to do that with all of em, I should however try. Even though, there are still tones of journals/notes in the game that doesn't lead anywhere. Goodbye notes, a bandits last word, a dead npc's diary and so on.

An example:
Spoiler
Was out exploring when I stubbled upon a small lake. On a small rock next to it I found neatly folded clothing and jewelry. A few feet away I saw the body of a young girl, filled with Forsworn arrows. Next to her pile of clothes I found a note (her diary) saying how her father had warned her about swimming alone in unstable and dangerous times like this. And how she felt it was all overdone and how nothing would stop her from taking those soothing baths she loved.

After reading that I thought I so wished I could try and find her father to bring him the bad news, I'm sure he is worried sick wondering where she is.

So I agree, you need to interact with the game by decrypting those journals but far far more should lead to active quests. What a great way to add diversity to the game/quests.

2. A more meaningful interaction as GM. I want it to mean something. Or keep NPC as GM and make us a "right hand"

most things that they've changed because they thought were "good ideas" is actually leading the series into a horrible direction in my opinion. instead of expanding what they already have, in many aspects they are simply just changing what ES is all about. perks? decent idea but horribly implemented.. them getting rid of classes and spell making, is the WORSE thing they could of done. whats the point in creating a new character when I can do ANYTHING I WANT with 1 character??? they arent even making the races in some aspects.. for example, Argonians can breathe underwater.. well who the hell cares?? theres nothing in this game that I can enjoy while being an argonian because there are no locations that would benefit from choosing this race.

lack of acrobatics? some of the most fun iv'e had was CREATING fortify acrobatics spells and running super fast around the world.. I see they are trying to be more "realistic" but this isnt REAL LIFE. gta4 went down the same road, svcking the life from its series of "fun" for a more "real life" type experience.. I hope the next ES brings MORE and takes away LESS.

Imo it is not nearly as good as FO3 FNV or Morrowind but most games in the market are not nearly as good as Skyrim, so it is surely worth getting.
