What do you name your character?

I always name my main toon Calibos from Clash of the Titans. I was Calibos in EQ, EQ2, WoW, Vanguard, Rift, DDO, Runescape, and now Skyrim.

Games like Skyrim I usually try to create a character and my typical gamer tag is something that is amusing (but not without meaning) and unfitting a good rp character. I usually name my characters in such a way that it fits the race but allows for wiggle room in play style.

Often these names come from lore in game, and out of game.. other games at times sometimes have influence.

I voted Something Inspired by Something Else, Something that fits the Lore, and Something that fits the Race.

My inspiration typically come from my own fiction, I have a whole slew of fantasy characters that fit all different types of archetypes. Then of course, I take some creative liberties to fit them into the game.

I don't 100% fit the lore and background naming rules, but I try to pick something that at least feels right to me

Morrowind: My character's name was Aalaan. I don't know how well that fits (or doesn't fit) with the naming rules of a Wood Elf in Elder Scrolls lore, but it felt like an appropriate Wood Elf name to me.

Oblivion: My character's name was Khulain. I don't know how well that fits with the naming rules for a Redguard in the lore, but it felt appropriate to me.

Skyrim: My character was named Thadious, which again, I don't know how well fits Bretons in the lore, but it felt appropriate to me.

My secondary character (if I don't just re-create Thadious) will probably be a Wood Elf named Marr'Taan. Again, I dunno how much that matches the specific naming rules, but it works for me, for the image of my character.

My dark elf mage was named after a Sith Lord in Star Wars lore, with that said he's leaning more towards lightning bolts and raising the undead while wearing one of the dragon priests' mask to compliment his outlook. Darth Nihilus. (:

Had a Khajiit ranger too called Feral, yeah you could tell I was brain-dead at that point of time.

For me, it's a name I always use in my games for the last 10 years, that I made into my Gamertag. :)

I usually use a racial name and/or a fantasy name from a book or movie(Or I just make it up).

Khajiit Ninja = J'skar Sabre-Fang

Dark Elf Assassin = Revan

Breton Wizard = Atheron Gale

Nord Warrior = Ragnar Hel-Axe

Argonian Nightblade = Alzrhul Marsh-Runner

Orc Berserker = Balrog, Reaver of Skulls

You get the idea

I like to generally make it suitable to the race, but with my own twist.

Something that fits with the race and lore. But you can tell me not creative. I named my male Dunmer after the Telvani sovereign with the corprusarium in Morrowind and even for some hours with an experimental Khajit I looked up a list of Khajit names in Morrowind (on the uesp wiki) and assembled a new one on base of the existing ones ;)
