NO recognition from NPCs

Post » Sat Dec 17, 2011 2:51 am

I can easily disregard other flaws of Skyrim but this one I can't.

I am the head of the Thieves Guild having done all the quests and the rest of the members don't seem to recognize it at all. When I initiate dialogue with the bartender he tells me I am the new guy.
I am the freaking archmage and the guy with the stupid accent in Dragonsreach tells me to join the Mages College.... COME ON!
I am killing dragons, I am wearing bad ass armor, I have finished the Companions quests and the guards tell me that I fetch the god-damn mead.

All these really take away the immersion and the rewarding feeling of hours of questing. Respect my authorita god-damn it! OK seriously, how could Bethesda neglect that?

Yeah there have been some other threads about it, I'm guild master and they refer to me as a newbie.

Cheers

I thought Todd said that in Skyrim this wouldn't be another Oblivion where you do not get regonized for being Archmage or what head of the guild you were in. So is this another Todd lie again? I thought were were suppose to be reconized by NPCers in streets or even guild members.

If a supreme court justice walked up to you wearing a suit and tie, would you recognize them?

I haven't done the mages guild quest yet but the Companions acknowledge me, the guards comment on my dragon armor, and my speechcraft, as well as a plethora of other things. Maybe its situational. Also, not everyone is gonna recognize you as the head of mages, I'd wager in a place like Skyrim that doesn't put a heavy emphasis on magic, most citizens would know what the head of the college looked like, let alone his name of that he was you.

Ya i get recognized as the Arch-Mage with in the distance of Winterhold, but farther than that i don't, but people only know your dragonborn if you kill a dragon in their vacinity, so that's the same thing, shouldn't they know your the savior and everyone be calling you dragonborn?

Sure you have a point. I don't except every NPC to know who I am and what I am doing. But my own members in the Thieves Guild?! I am their Guild Master! Shouldn't they show it somehow?! Shouldn't the librarian in the Mage's College allow the Arch-freakin-mage to read books?? And shouldn't the guards of Whiterun at least know that I don't fetch the mead any more?

This is really the only thing that Bethesda has done with Skyrim that has disappointed me to the point of annoyance. Even the bugs are not this gamebreaking. That said and out of the way, I love the game and would love it if Bethesda would write in code that cancels out the phrases to newbies within guilds when you achieve a certain rank or distance into the guild.
Companions -
Spoiler
Becoming a werewolf should be where you are never acknowledged as the mead-fetcher again

College - As soon as you join, you should be recognized with for and/or respect for learning the ways of the arcane.
Thieves Guild - Haven't done it, but from what you say, it should be similar to the Companions aside from the spoiler I posted above.
Dark Brotherhood - This is really the only one that effectively acknowledged your placement in a guild; people feared you and were wary of the thigns they hear about you.

If the lack of environmental awareness was fixed I would enjoy this game tenfold more, I can't stand inane and inappropriate dialog.

In fable people would cheer and clap for you depending on your fame level... I remember in Oblivion, the people of the mages guild would acknowledge you as guildmaster.
