I believe it was the cart. Recently on the road to Falkreath, I saw a dead bandit lying next to a cart with cabbage all over the ground.

This one time I saw a thief get into a fight with one of Riverwood locals. The thief killed him while I watched the whole thing. I did notice that Faendal went missing but probably because of a dragon attack.

Sven didn't do it. He believes he can win Camila's heart. It was likely his mother taking Faendal out, I'm guessing contracting the DB.
