That is without doing all the questlines. I have a character who's just a companion, I'm not doing either of the war factionss, and not doing the mage/thief/db questlines either. Saving those questlines for other characters. So how will I collect the shouts in those dungeons since they're locked.

The only thing I can figure is that there is many more word walls than there is shouts, so it's possible to collect all the shouts without breaking the roleplay of your character completely in half. Any word on that from similarly minded players?

I really hope Bethesda isn't pushing us into making stupid munchikin characters that are good at everything. Fine if people wanna do that, but they shouldn't be encouraged into it, especially since Bethesda are going in the direction of specialized characters (resulting in the player making more than one) since they added perks to the series.

Dragons respawn randomly so yeah there should be. As for quest line that's different.

There's a storm shout near the end of the main quest which if you miss it, you wont be able to max that shout.

you mean all 20 shouts full powered?

You can get all the shouts, you just wont be able to get all three levels of them.

actually yes you can get all the shouts without going to the DB for instance.


I got all 3 Marked for death shouts without stepping a foot into the DB, just ask the greay beards, you get a massive about of shouts from their Map marking. I also raided every Barrow and Mountain top looking for them, and even more so are the Barrows hidden in caves and the like.

Ah excellent, like I hoped then. The shouts are randomized, and there are more walls than there are words. Once you collect all the shouts, the other walls just do nothing. I guess the shout is determined when you first enter the dungeon.

Hey! be aware there are a handful of words that can only be accessed by quests. like Dragon Rend, Odaviing and RO, DAH

Shouts I've gotten from the beards not going beyond Diplomatic immunity


All 3 frost breath shouts

All 3 marked for Death shouts


only 2 Fire breath

2 Freeze

all 3 Auric whisper

all 3 Whirldwind sprint, I was even given a comment by the grey birds upon first meeting them that I had already begin learning most of the shouts

All 3 Ethereal

All 3 Throw voice

all 3 disarm


thats 25 words so far that I bat off the top of my head not count shouts that I also have like Kynes peace, Animal Call, Storm Call, Clear, Skies, etc etc you can atleast get 40 shouts from my observations without going past Diplomatic immunity by simply asking the Grey beards

as for the dragons there are 20 shouts* 3 words =60 souls required ive got 89 and as 4 the words only dragonrend and the first 1 is quested all others u can get from walls example i got the third fire breath during quest then got same word in a wall in miscellaneous quest ask the old guys if they heard of words of power or shout in a town till guard talks to u the next tim u load a town a courier will give letter 4 a word location
