Is it just me, or shouldn't the TCAI console command do exactly what OP wants?

Enemies still carry weapons. Spiders still have creepy idle animations. Skeletons etc. blood on certain walls.

EDIT: Ignore, already been suggested.

Also, @OP, possibly learn to mod yourself?? Making there nothing threatening at all in Skyrim (which is arguably the grimmest TES game to date) is more work than just a simple script fix.

I think that your kids are enjoying watching you play just because you're their Daddy and they'd enjoyed the same if you were watching some film or drawing electricity installation schematics. But I think that for that young kids anything with dark, gritty colour palette Skyrim has cannot be interesting.
If it is, I think it's is just because 'Daddy likes it so it's good'. Kids like to do what they see their Mommy or Daddy do. (I realise this last sentence sounds awkward, please spare us of smart-ass comments, I mean cooking, wearing high heel shoes etc)

On more constructive note, without CK it's unlikely to get something, but for Oblivion there were mods that would meet your wishes. (Super Marioblivion, some Candy land, Oblivion(or morrowind) for kids,...)

Once CK's out you could make a silent AoE Calm spell that effects up to level 100 that casts every 10 sec and whenever combat begins. That should stop all combat right?

If my nephew is over and wants to play, I wouldn't leave him alone just like letting kids surf youtube on their own. I would mediate morality, common sense and have a set of rules for the youngen to follow. I did this with him when he was 6 with fallout, of all games, I guided him on a hunt for food and not to waste anything. He eats meat he might as well learn where and how you get it. I gave him consequences for his actions, I put him in the middle of the wasteland by a lake in new vegas away from anywhere he could get in serious trouble. Only let him play for 1/2 and hour, he hunted geckos, swam a bit then he hit a power armored Veronica in the leg and hurt her leg ( cripple ) with a sword. He felt really bad about this like he would if he hurt a friend IRL, this is reassuring you see. A quick little dance of freedom and lessons in consequence and action with some morality in the mix didn't seem to harm him psychologically. I probably shouldn't experiment with a the kids brain like this but with close monitoring of his actions, you can guide them in an adventure by saying things like " are you sure that's a good idea, (this) could happen" with usual replies of "Oh yeah, that would be bad."

Won't the toggle combat AI do that? try "tcai" in the console (using tilde to get to the console) stops all fighting, or fighting back.

I think sandbox games are perfect for kids. Developers should make of them, and I could see how a non violent Skyrim would go over well.

There is nothing wrong with letting your kids play M rated games.

In the years to come, I am willing to bet that all the evidence will point to "violent videogames" doing nothing to harm a child's mind, and videogames in general being nothing but a benefit. It is just sad people who try to find a scapegoat for their own failures as a parent or try to find a reason for events like columbine.

I beg to differ. If you've ever played any military shooter over xbox live then you've run into the foul mouth 8 or 9 year old who is gonna "headshot all these bit..es" on a regular basis. Anyone with a lick of common sense can see that violent games can effect a young childs demeaner and usually does. They make age appropriate games for a reason.

Still, there's always going to be blood on the ground, goat heads impaled on sticks, and other images disturbing for young children. It's Skyrim, not Animal Crossing.

Actually I want to make a mod with an island for Hello Kitty Island Adventures. Hello Kitty could wander around the island killing cute animals who wouldn't do her bidding, or who looked at her the wrong way. When she is done there she can go to my Animal Crossing mod and raid the farms and kill villagers.

I think it has a lot of potential.....

If I was lucky enough to have kids, I'd shut my computer off and play with them until they had to go to bed, then I'd turn on my computer and have some "Me" time.

I don't think OP asked for advices regarding how to raise his/her kids.
But yeah, as mentionned couple of times above, TCAI should do the trick.

There's a lot of discussion here focused on the appropriateness of this idea. I can't say this is really off topic, but it has overwhelmed the thread.

As the father of a six-year-old I'd personally love to see a mod that toned down the violence so I could play with him, or made all enemies passive so he could wander around himself. While I've let him watch me do some exploring and fight a few dragons (mostly with my mage, to avoid finishing moves) the combat is gory enough that I can't just sit him on my knee and play. A fun aside, when he was about two we used Morrowind to teach him that hitting was bad - I started a fairly passive stealth/speech/illusion character, but sometimes I'd get attacked and he realized that wasn't very nice.

I'm not really sure what to do with this thread. I think the broader issue of playing/modifying Skyrim for a younger audience really deserves its own thread in Skyrim General. This will not only give it its own space, but it will keep the topic more abstract than a discussion of LordStark. However without access to the creation kit I'm not sure how productive this discussion can be if focused purely on designing such a mod. Still, this seems like the best course of action, unless someone wants to PM me a suggestion.

So LordStark, if you'd like to start a fresh thread on this please PM me first, and we'll organize it so I can make the second post in the thread and warn people away from repeating this discussion. If someone wants to make a general discussion in Skyrim General that's fine, although please don't tie it back to this thread in the OP, I'd rather such a topic start off general than try and continue this.
