Inconsistent vendor hours

Post » Sat Dec 17, 2011 7:01 am

I just don't get it and its extremely annoying. Some days a vendor will be open at 9am other times they don't open up till 1pm. Such shoddy business acumen!

Probably a glitch or bug. They almost always open consistently at 8 AM for me, and close at 8 PM. Sometimes they don't open until 9 AM (Belethor and Earlund come to mind, but the latter has to walk a ways).

I wish my shops would do that. It is after all pretty weird that every shop in the game opens up at 8AM exactly.

This usually happens when I fast travel or "wait" and it goes from night to day during that time. Been so in Bethesda games since, forever?

I see it as if they overslept.

I find the shops open on time if I do any waiting in doors (a different cell). If I do the waiting outside for a shop to open, the doors will be locked. I only noticed this happening since patch 1.3 (PC version), but that could just be coincidence.

That dude at the forge at Whiterun arrives at work really late. He's old and he's important, so I guess everyone just lets him get away with it. Are you confusing his work hours with everyone else's? Everyone else keeps to a fairly consistent schedule.

It's so annoying that local shopkeepers who have no alarm clocks or other methods of telling time just wake up when they want to and open their shops.

Lulz. All the lulz.

This is one of the best, most realistic bugs ever.

This happens to me sometimes if I'm waiting.

One day I arrived at Whiterun during the night so I went to sleep until close to 8. Then I went to Belathor's but it wasn't open yet, so I waited one hour. Still not open... I thought, that's weird, maybe he opens at 9 and I never realized. Waited one more hour and still not open. One more hour and nothing. Two hours and nothing. Two more hours and still closed. When it was close to 8 pm I just assumed there was some glitch from me, starring at his door waiting, so I just went to some other vendor instead.

Especially that lazy [censored] Ulfberth War Bear. Some days he opens at 11:30 and is closed by 5:00. As least his wife keeps decent hours. My character wants wants to kill him and marry his wife.

Sometimes shop doors are locked even at 2 pm. But if I pick the lock it isnt trespassing. I think It has something to do with if the NPC is talking to you and you walk out the door, they teleport out with you to finish their sentence.

Nope. I start with Adrianne and work my way up to him, so he is always the last vendor I check out. Its been happening since day one for me, so its been a consistent issue for every vendor in every town. I do wait outside, so maybe I should try standing in my home and wait there then come out see if that helps

Also Smig when you wait standing infront of a locked door you should step back and look away, then usually it will show as being open when you check it again.

This happens in Whiterun to me all the time. If you wait in front of the door it will never open, it's a glitch that stays locked. If you wait til 8 or 9 around the corner, then look at the door, you should be fine. Also, I've waited and the door was locked, turned away to talk to the guard that's always standing there, looked back, and the door was open.

Still funny though :D

U wait at night till 8am. When you load, te npcs will just then be leavIng their houses for their job. Wait 1 more hour and they will be at te shop. If u wait at night till 11am or whatever it does true same thing. They are just now leaving their house from sleep at 11 am. Just learn to double wait.

Hmm... I've had shops close for days, weeks, or months at a time (whiterun armor, though the outside stayed open), only to reopen. Most shops open around 8 for me, but it's not hard and fast.

okay waited a few times while in the house and then coming out to check the shops. all vendors were open at 10am. So I guess that solves my problem. Thanks for the suggestion Topherman

It's no bug! I met Belthanor (or whatever his name is) yakking it up in the Bannered Mane! What's he doing in the freakin' bar at 9 am!?
Also, I had to go physically track down the blacksmith chick (the 'maiden' of Maiden's Den) who was casually strolling by Ysolde's place well in the afternoon! And she snubbed me! It struck me that after having such a long history dealing with her on a daily basis that she'd be a little more congenial at least!

I love it. Makes it seem like the NPC's have lives. You can always use your imagination as to why they were there instead of opening shop.

This may have something to do with the clock becoming de-synced from the gameworld so that, for example, the new day starts at 4PM, etc.. There's a thread about it somewhere in the PC bug section.
