Skyrim: One of the finest games I've played

Post » Fri Dec 16, 2011 6:40 pm

I would have gladly paid $150 for Skyrim. In fact, I've already paid more than this in support of Bethesda by buying copies for friends who don't have the financial means to shell out money at releases..... running about $180 (+ my own copy) so far.

So few gaming studios offer such vast, immense worlds so realized in quests, open world etc. .... literally 200+ hours for $60. Amazing.

I love the Dungeon quests.

I love the hidden little stories in the world that aren't referenced anywhere.

I love the Daedric quests.

I love the handcrafted dungeons - many are so different than others and I have had many last 30+ minutes easily in exploring.

I love that I can play my character as I roam the world, RPGing, without having to grind or worry about it all equaling out in the end - I just play and 'life' happens.

I love the graphics - I'm not always a graphics (w)hore but I have to admit I have paused numerous times while playing to simply admire the majesty of Skyrim.

I love a fair bit of the writing. I loved BG2 but not once do I remember it actually touching my heart. In Skyrim, the Jarl of Whiterun made me feel shame and embarrassed after I took sides against him - that is just one example.

I love the different feels of the main cities: Whiterun, Windhelm, Markart, Solitude, Riften especially stand out and are very well conceived.

I love the random miscellaneous quests that, even if simple, give me a sense of helping a local people and ridding the world of problems.

I like the couriers, the quests that relate to other quests but wait to trigger until a later time.

I like that Empire/Stormcloaks are not a clear cut good/evil.

I like that the Thieves and Dark Brotherhood don't feel like "overall nice people just doing a little bit bad" but really feel dark and wrong.

Great job Bethesda - and thank you.

Wonderful RPG.

I agree. Awesome game. People always seem to point out negatives and never positives.

Stop liking things that are already in the game. You are only allowed to like things not in the game, or so I'm told.

All good points. I love this game.

The people complaining are for the most part enjoying the game as well, unless that enjoyment is marred by bugs and glitches and optimization problems.

I notice you said a fair bit of the writing.

For me my enjoyment is just as much as others but I feel like they did a bad job on the factions writing and length wise and that is my primary concern as I do not want them to repeat that problem so I make my voice heard on the forums and hopefully BGS takes note of the things people like and the things people don't and make the next game accordingly and stick to what makes them great. Hopefully they look at their previous games when they do that.
