Wood Elf, focusing your stats in health (80%) and then stamina (20%). Primary skills are archery and sneak, with secondary skills in light armor and block. Essential perks are: overdraw, eagle eye, power shot, quick shot, stealth and deadly aim. Bows and arrows: best you can find, enchanted with fire, frost or shock enchantments for more damage output. Keep a one handed weapon on you for backup. This is the archetype provided by the Skyrim guide. Alchemy, for poisons, would probably be a good thing to have too.

In Skyrim you can wear heavy armour if you want because the perks will remove all weight and noise from it, if you want to wear light armour for *realism* then you can, your choice.
Alchemy is always useful as is enchanting.
Sneaking is a very useful skill for a hunter/archer build and will allow you to score critical hits as a sneak attack bonus, it can also be quite funny/silly if you remain undetected because you could shoot into a room full of people and they will look for you then decide it must be their imagination and go back while stepping over their dead comrade or with an arrow sticking out of their back.

Alchemy is a waste on the bow later in the game. Once you invest enough points in the archery skill tree the box becomes way too powerful. Then you can invest in the sneak skill tree and I think the third perk up makes it so the bow does 5x damage when sneaking. With that set up and some powerful arrows like ebony you'll be unstoppable even playing on master. I actually started using my sword and sheild more because the bow is one shot kill now. My bow and I can take on everything and anything Skyrim brings to the table.

Also it nice to add an enchantment early in the game. It helps a ton. Like flames or magic/stamina damage. Here's an obvious tip. If you enchant your bow with the soul gen enchantment its very easy to fill those svckers at a safe distance.

Wood Elves have the best starting archery but you can easily catch up with others that have a higher starting.

Light armor is definitely the best choice.

I never used it and was perfectly fine, just depends on how you want to play.

Use perks for sneaking because it gives you the 3x sneak damage. Also, carry around soul gems and get a bow that is enchanted, it will help give you that extra edge.

All of my primary TES characters have been stealth archers since Morrowind. Wood Elf is an excellent choice, and if you're going the stealth route Khajit is another solid pick. Smithing, Enchanting, and Alchemy (poisons) will have you one-shotting anything by the end of the game.

Ive actually started playing an arcane assassin which is pretty much the same thing as an archer but i use bound weapons with a little higher priority for conjuration and illusion (for the bound bow and silent casting perks)
